This 1972 Savage 99 E in 308 Win with checkered wood from a late 99 C has 20" barrel. Everything about it seems as good as it looks; nice bore, nice blue. Not perfect, has slight marks on wood. Super nice metal. Can add correct rear sight if needed. $1000 plus my shipping and insurance cost to your zip.

The checkering was done by Savage?

I was told the stocks are Savage, made for the DL models. I lack the expertise to verify that; my forte is the Utica and Chicopee models. They are not original to this rifle, as it had pressed checkering. I can take more pictures if that would help. Thank you for your interest,
Sam

I put a note on the Savage 99 Fire, asking for help in identifying the wood. Will share whatever I learn.

Yup. The 308 is a very robust cartridge, and the 99 E will put it where you point it.
