I'm looking at either the 550 or 750 presses to purchase. I have a question about cartridge conversions. If a guy wanted to reload .223, .300 BLK, 6X45, and 6X47 Rem on a Dillon progressive how would you do it? There is no cartridge conversion for the 6mm cartridges closest is the 6 TCU for the 550, and it uses a 6 PPC powder funnel.

So with this information if I buy a 550c press either get the .223 or .300 BLK conversion kit and just buy the appropriate powder funnel for the other cartridges. If I buy the XL750 then I buy both the .223 and .300 BLK conversion kits if I want to add the case feeder in the future. I just don't see a reason to have multiple shell plates for the same case head.

If you can use the same shell plate , then that is the way I would go. You can buy the sub parts individually from Dillon or check auction sites.
I would get the 750 and get the shell feeder if you can swing it. You will more than likely add it anyways and it will only go up in price and is very convenient.
I really like my 650 and have had 550’s also.
Never any issues with the 550 but prefer a auto index along with extra die space.
I have not loaded rifle cartridges larger than 223 on my Dillon
Presses.
Edited to say I would call Dillon and they should be able to help you out. I would recommend the carbide die for 223.

The 223 and the 300bo use the same shell plate and locators. No need to buy 2 shell plates for the 223 and the 300 bo. The 6x47 takes a different shell plate.

I started out with an original 450 (The Daddy of the 550) , then upgraded to a 550, then still later a 550C I believe.
I can load 9mm, 38 Special/357 Mag/357 Maximum, 40 S&W/10mm, 44 Magnum, 45 GAP, 45ACP, 45 Colt, and 480 Ruger in handgun ammunition
Loading Rifle ammo I could load 223, 300 BO, and 300 HAM'R on the 550. I mainly load rifle ammo on a single stage, unless loading in quantity.

Years ago I bought Shell Plates for everything that I planned to load on the 450. NOTE: The 450 was the version before the Tool Head. I also picked up Powder Funnels for every rifle caliber that I thought I might load for. For handguns I have several Conversion sets. Get an extra Primer Assembly so that you can have both a Large and Small Primer Assembly ready to swap in when changing from Large to Small primers.

I recommend the 550. It is simple and easy to change from cartridge to cartridge. I do not need a Bullet or Case Feeder.

The 750 would be better if loading a single cartridge only.

Just My Two Cents.

The 550 is simple and versatile. Any 7/8 14 die will screw in and like Bob R mentions I loaded up on shell plates, buttons, and funnels back in the 450 days.
I do have a square deal also that works well for handgun.

Call Dillon. They can put together a custom caliber conversion kit for you. I’ve the 750 and mix and match pieces from various kits to load some stuff.
