A lot of you guys had really cool first cars. Me, not so much. A 1975 Chevy Impala 4 door 350 with a 2 barrel. If you flipped the air cleaner lid, it sounded cool. The rear seat floorboards were rusted out, so the bombardier sat in the back seat and dropped the m-80’s while the navigator lit them.

82 Buick Skylark with a 4-speed...it died a horrible engine failure death about a month after I bought it from a guy my dad worked with back then.

I promptly purchased a 71 Mustang with a 302 which I drove until the end of my freshman year in college. I got in a lot of trouble with that car. But back then $2000 bucks bought a lot of fun. After I bought it I found it had likely been in at least a couple accidents. Bondo all over the rear quarters. So I dug into it and started fixing it up. In the end, I ran out time and patience and my dad bought it from me for my brother, had the exterior professionally restored and it stayed in the family a couple more years.

The engine bay in that Mustang was enormous.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

69 Firebird with an OHC 6 and Powerglide.
Later upgraded with a built 350 SBC.

Sold it to my brother to fund a 69 Corvette convertible. About ten years back, he sold the OHC motor and transmission to a collector for more than he paid me for the car.

1972 F-100 2WD automatic a yellowish green w/ the worst engine Ford ever made…the 360. It did run for years though getting 8-10 mpg and 500 mpq (of oil).

I learned to drive a '51 Mercury flathead v8, 3 on the tree. My first dedicated vehicle was a 1962 Chevrolet carryall/suburban with ?16" split rim wheels, 3 speed manual transmission and ?261 CI inline 6. Sturdy, lots of ground clearance, spacious rear seat and lots of cargo room. A convenient vehicle for a dorm dwelling college student.

My first new vehicle was a '72 VW van which required front disc pads every 10k miles and routine valve adjustments. It was succeeded by a '69 Ford panel van with an inline 6, 3 speed manual transmission, and commercial plates when I started grad school. I found the commercial plates to be a real asset allowing me to park in loading zones and other restricted spots when scooting over to class from work.

You guys are killing me, 1971, got a girl pregnant, (my future ex) my dad said “drop your motorcycle off at the dealer and I’ll make up the difference on a car for you”. The whole time hinting what he was looking at; Almost new, Showroom condition, Pristine, etc. He showed up at my job with a 1969 RAMBLER AMERICAN!!! 🤮🤮🤮
He was so proud he only paid $600!!!
