I was out in California a while back and took a charter boat out for the day. Well I have never seen so many seals in my life. They would rob your hook before you could get it in the water. It wasn't long before one had hooked him self and the fight was on. Brother let me tell you. Hook a 60 pound seal on 40 lb test is a chore. Well me being a Florida cracker that loves to see the expression on folks faces when you say the unexpected. After I got it to the boat I ask " Do I club it or cut it's throat"?

CAUTION! There just might be some tree huggers sun batheing on the upper deck. Next thing I know, here they come. Whew! Hard to explain I was just joking. Besides, I'm not sure how the tender loins would taste from a critter that eat fish.

Too funny! Here in TX I hooked a huge sea turtle (this was a few years ago) while surf fishing. Dragged that monster in. Drew quite a crowd. While I was trying to figure out how to get the hook out of it's massive jaws half the crowd started chanting 'turtle soup' and the other half 'let it go'. LOL

I had no desire to keep that turtle and after getting the hook out we watched it head into the sea.

Quite an experience.

Those would be sealions, where did you go out of?

Got to remember, those sealions are protected now, too many showing up on the beaches with holes in their heads. partyboat captain can get in a whole lot of trouble.

Never heard of somebody actually getting one to the boat, what were you fishing for that you had the tackle to handle a sealion?
