I have a few questions about a recent purchase and was wondering if there are any Hi-Standard experts around here. There was an auction close to home over the weekend that had several firearms. There wasn’t anything that I thought I really had to have, but I ended up buying something I definitely didn’t need and even better, I know nothing about. It’s a Hi-Standard Supermatic S-101. What drew me to it was the extreme high condition and being complete with box, second barrel, and 2 barrel weights. I would rate it a strong 98% condition and an online search put the DOM around 1955-56.

The magazine has a silver finish of some sort and is stamped “HI-STANDARD” on the bottom. Would this be the original magazine? Also the box is obviously cut out for this specific model, but the end label is not filled out. Is this an indication that it’s not original to this particular gun? Is there anything else that sticks out in the pics to anyone? And of course, does anyone know what a fair value is? Im not planning to sell it, but curious how close the $660 purchase price is to actual value. I couldn’t come up with any good comparisons on google.

Any and all information is appreciated. TIA

I finally found a decent comparable. The auction is from 2018, though. The auction pistol has wooden stocks and a blued magazine, which are both different than mine. The end label is also blank for model, but does have the serial number written in. It sold for $1276.

I don’t know how close to the price you paid this gun is but I do know that in the condition this one is in, the accessories and the original box I’d be glad to pay $660 for it! They are great little shooters too!

Just my two cents worth,

High Standard values are kind of all over the map. Some will tell you they’re “rare collectibles”, others will tell you “odd orphans”. The main issue is that there are plenty of Rugers around to SHOOT for $400 (and they digest HV ammo just fine), and plenty of S&W 41’s to shoot AND collect, for $1000-$1200.

I like High Standards, and you got a good deal on that one, but unless you’re looking at one of the “space guns”, $800-$1000 is where the market is at.

Yes, you’ll see some Supermatics and Victors that someone paid $1500 for….. Those guys overpaid…..

That IS an original Hi-Standard magazine. I see lots of original Hi-Standard boxes with the end labels faded or blank after so many years. It seems to fit the gun and has the inside box for the second barrel and weights, so I am thinking it probably is the original box. A Sport King in that condition seems to be worth maybe $500 or more, so the second barrel and the weights AND THE TARGET SIGHTS make me think you did very well at $660.
