I headed to a couple of LGS's on my birthday a few weeks ago. One had the scoped Mountain Ascent (MA) and one had the Montana. I could not resist as they were both priced well and, frankly, really wonder what Kimber's plans are for these rifles going forward. I just finished the "pre-flight" work, short of bedding, on the Montana and will do the same on the MA tomorrow. The Montana now wears a 3-9X Burris FFII in Talley LW's. The brakes have been replaced with Hughes Precision thread protectors. Weather permitting a range trip before the weekend.

Nice pair! My 6.5 CM sure likes the Barnes 127 LRX.
Let us know how they shoot for you.

My 2 main hunting rifles are in those same chamberings. The 6.5CM in a Tikka T3x Lite and the .308 in a Tikka T3x SuperLite. There is very little in North America you can’t accomplish with those 2 rifles.

Tom,

With three sons, all shooters and two handloaders I am looking for threes that I see disappearing or near so. I'll post such soon on the Single Shot forum. Our friend Lee was instrumental...

Wow. They look great.

Do you have a photo of the thread protectors?

Kimber won’t even sell to Australia at the moment. Don’t know what’s going on. Bloody company was started by an Aussie!

Like you I recently bought a pair. An Adirondack 308 and a Montana 270WSM. To go with my .223 Montana, 6.5CM Hunter and 3006 Classic. Have a spare Montana stock and fittings so the 6.5 might see a little change yet, not sure.

Lol. I have the same pair, except mine is Montana (308) and Huner (6.5 C). I bought the 6.5 just to shoot economically (35 gr powder vs 45-46 in 308) plus recoil less than the 308. As much as I hate to say it, I understand the 6.5 Creed now that I've shot it more than a bit.

I'm with you on the future of some of the Kimber rifles. I snagged a Mountain Ascent 7mm RM recently. They only made it 3 years but it is a solid rifle. Easily hit 3000 with a 175 ABLR. Recoil with the brake is about like 6.5 Creed recoil - I don't lose the sight picture at all. The brake won't be part of the long term equation but for finding pressure/vel, trying a bunch of different powder/bullet combos, it don't suck.

Glutton! Don’t you know that in these times of uncertainty you’re supposed to leave one for the next guy? 😛

Happy Birthday!

I could not find protectors on Kimber's website. Hughes is who I bought from.
