Mystery as three Kansas City Chiefs fans 'freeze to death' in friend's backyard two days after playoffs - as furious loved ones suggest they may have been POISONED and slam police for failing to investigate

The three friends had been watching a Chiefs game at the home where they were found, but the owner was not arrested and cops don't suspect foul play
The men's confused loved ones are demanding answers over the mysterious circumstances

Questions are swirling over the mysterious deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs fans who 'froze to death' in a friend's backyard after watching a playoff game.

David Harrington, Ricky Johnson and Clayton McGeeney visited an unnamed friend's house on January 7 to watch the Chiefs' playoff win against the Chargers, but never made it home.

When the fiancé of one of the men couldn't get hold of him for two days, she broke into the home to discover one of their bodies on the back porch. After police were called, they quickly found the bodies of the other two men also in the backyard.

The homeowner claimed the three men froze to death, and investigators ruled out foul play as they declined to make any arrests.

Now, the loved ones of the men are speaking out to demand answers, as they insist the reported circumstances of the deaths simply don't add up.

'Nobody believes this story,' said Harrington's mother Jennifer Marquez. 'None of his friends, none of the families, none of us believe it... Everybody is furious.'

The family of Johnson, a father-of-three, spoke with NewsNation this week, saying they have been left grief-stricken and confused at the sudden death of the 'loving' man.

'It's very hard holding up,' said Johnson's mother Norma. 'Something is not right.'

She said the police are 'not doing anything' to solve the mystery of her son's passing, and called for the owner of the home, who has not been publicly identified, to be 'at least investigated.'

Although relatives of the men feel investigators haven't given the case enough attention, the Kansas City Police Department previously said they are awaiting medical examiner's results on a cause of death before moving forward.

The department did not immediately respond to a request for an update on the case.

Cops have also reportedly doubled down on their determination that no foul play was involved in the deaths, and say they are treating the case as a death investigation, not a homicide investigation.

But the answers from police have done little to satisfy the men's loved ones, with Norma speculating the trio were 'poisoned'. There is no evidence that has been presented by police to support that theory.

Some who claim to know the men claimed the circumstances of the owner of the home was even more bizarre, with a Facebook post written by friend Kaylee La Tier, reported by Inside Edition, alleging he had a strange reaction when confronted.

'(He) was inside his home alive while my friends were dead in his yard for lord knows how long. They were all hanging out since after the game Sunday. He KNEW people were looking for them,' she wrote.

'He read messages of people searching for him on Tuesday. My husband banged on his door for 20 min. My friend banged on his door and then busted a window and yelled and announced her presence while she’s inside and still nothing from him??

'Then the cops come 10 min later and he comes out nonchalant in his boxers with an empty wine glass in hand??!'

Johnson's sister added that they haven't 'heard much at all' from investigators, and have been left in the dark over how they came to their conclusion that no foul play was involved.

The two-day delay in finding the men and the lack of any reporting of their disappearance has also raised eyebrows.

That story stinks like a week old carp lying on a river bank in July.

Everybody gets drunk as schit. Really really black out drunk. At some point homeowner staggers to bed. other guys continue to drink pass out/fall asleep in yard and freeze to death. Homeowner wakes up the next day and like everyone who isn’t in his 20s with a bad hangover lays around in the dark for as long as he can get away with it. Barely moves for days except to get food and go to the bathroom while watching TV and sleeping. Assumes friends went home while he was passed out and never thinks to look outside. Phone is turned off as a matter of course while he recovers.

I blame the multiple one hour long cop/fire/court/hospital shows. Corpses aren't thawed enough to draw a tox screen and people wanna hang someone already.

I had a friend who got so drunk at Willy Nelson’s Lukenbach shindig that he passed out on top of a fireant mound. He should have gone to the hospital. It was awful.

I can easily see some dudes getting so drunk they froze to death.

It can also be a lot shorter if you're stupid.

one person I can see

but 3 people, who all were last known at 1 address..after 24 hours you'd think people would be doing a wellness check or at least searching the place.

Good high school friend was at a beach party on a small island, boats access only. Everybody got drunker than skunks and passed out. Buddy passed out at the waterline, his bad luck was it was low tide, with a 7 foot range from low to high. Of course he drowned.

Bet they hit some drugs containing fentanyl at the end of the party and the homeowner provided it. The ones frozen OD and wander out in the cold, pass out then freeze to death. The homeowner passes out in the house and awakes later to find them dead in the back yard. He knows he’s culpable so hides for days until the popo shows up.

It is a terrible outcome, but not difficult to understand why the police have decided on that position - some reasonable scenario above - eventual chem findings will probably just seal it up. Sorry, families and friends.

This.

Yep, this.

Maybe some drugs involved too.

Inebriation, incapacitation, doesn't mix well with freezing weather.

Family probably knows what those three do/did partying and such, and of course are raising a stink to shift blame.

Let's see what the tox report says when they get 'em thawed out.
