Here's the one missing from my assembly of 1920/26:

A Super Rare Savage Model 20 Rifle 300 Savage 1/3500 Manufactured

https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/972884619

but the auction date keeps getting pushed back now it seems.

We know of a SAVAGE Model 1920 Long Action Prototype 256 Newton that keeps getting re-listed but yes, also vaguely recall other long action prototypes having been mentioned.

Kurt has been looking at the Prototype 256 for a couple months now thinking on if he should add it to our collection

Hmmm, in all my years looking at GB I've never seen a listing identified as "scheduled." That seems a bit wanky. And "super rare"? That's not a confidence builder as it looks like a "standard issue" 20/26 to me. Kind of like the 20/26 in 300 I have. Seems like a lot of hype. But maybe I missed something here?

The rifles that spawned the Models 1920 and 20/26 were long action prototype military rifles chambered in 30-06 for the U.S., 303 British for the UK, and 7x57 for South American countries looking to replace their Remington Rolling Blocks. I don't know how many of these rifles that there were, only 5 that I know of, and they were all sold from the R&D reference collection back in the late 1980s.

According to someone who owned it, the late Mark Benenson, the long action sporting rifle in 256 Newton was short chambered when he owned it. Mark offered it to me for $1K in the early 1990s, but I was over my head in debt for the cellular phone company that my wife and I had ended up owning and I couldn't afford to buy it when we were busy trying to keep Bank of America from calling our loans.

A few years ago a couple of those rflles came up on GunBroker. Seems to me one was missing all the bottom metal. I have a picture of one somewhere in my computer files.

A late Model 1926 300 Savage with Lyman in great condition is what I'm still hoping to find up here in Canada. Got a 250 but no 300.

After the auction was delayed a 2nd time the impression I get is that someone is just cutting bait not actually fishing... whistle

I've scheduled auctions on GB many times, but how do you find scheduled auctions on the GB website?

Is there a way to search scheduled auctions?

IIRC, the 7x57 was missing the bottom metal and the 303 was missing the trigger guard, but the SMLE magazine was shown. I took a screen shot of those too. IIRC. the seller was in ME and I'm sure that both of them passed through KTP at least once. IMO the asking price was too high for what they were, particularly with hardly any documentation or provenance. Mr. Clark sent me a photocopy of the page where they were listed in the R&D reference collection records and the sporting rifle is listed as being chambered in 30-06, not 256 Newton.

If anyone ends up with the Prototype in 256 Newton, I have a set of dies I'd sell.

I was offered a 300 savage at the last Bracebridge gun show which was almost 3 years ago due to covide issue and then hall not being available last year. Owner changed his mind after I told him I would pay his price. Haven't seen him since. Hopefully we have a Bracebridge show this spring or fall.
