Had a homeless, panhandling illegal approach me at a gas station in Houston earlier this week. He was shifty as hell, but seemed so darned desperate, confused and pathetic I decided to cut him a break. Bought him some gas station sushi, some snacks and a XL Slurpee. He boldly asked for a bag of deer corn for later to grind for field tortillas for his family of 11, but I had to draw the line somewhere. Pancho was his name, he said, in broken English. He said he was 77 years young but still had a strong back and was willing to work cheap.

He seemed pretty grateful and after patting him down and not finding any knives on him I decided to take him along on a quick couple day duck hunt, just in case we got stuck in the mud or needed a tire changed or whatever. I think he might've been lit up on crank. The eyes never lie, but I've been known to take a chance here and there. Off we went, headed south.

Had a hell of a good time even though the weather sucked pretty bad at first, the storms that came through Wednesday blew most of the birds out of the country.

"... Had a homeless, panhandling illegal approach me at a gas station in Houston earlier this week. He was shifty as hell, but seemed so darned desperate, confused and pathetic I decided to cut him a break. ..."

Way to go! That's "aiding and abetting" a felon! LOL!

Had one hit me up in a Wal-Mart parking lot. It was hot summertime. I'm sitting in the cool A/C of my Cummins diesel when she tapped on my window.
She handed me a well worn, laminated index card that basically said, "I have no documents and no money. I am broke and I am willing to work."

I flipped the card up on my dash and told her, "What you're doing is illegal. I'm not aiding and abetting a felon." and rolled my window back up.
After about 30 seconds, she realized I wasn't giving the card back and left!

Look closely at the pic with the pintail decoy. There’s a cheeky wee gator that spent an hour trying to decide if he wanted to try to eat that decoy or not.

When picking up blocks I asked Pancho if he wanted to bet that I couldn’t grab the little gummer by the throat. He declined, knowing me. Pity, as he would’ve won the bet. Little bugger dove just as I was ready to snatch him up by the neck.

I love Texas and these cats who always take such good care of me. America is still very much alive in many places.

Hey Rodger will you explane your BBQ system, I am thinking of a outdoor boiler with heat system for a shop and greenhouse wondering if i could incorperate something like that, are you using charcol, pellets or firewood.

P.S. @ Mackay Sagebrush from Lost River Ammo:

Your defensive custom 10mm rounds were some of the few that were able to easily punch through both sides of that truck and keep on going. I can't wait to run those .44 special and .44 mag rounds of yours that I have. Hopefully, test them on a big whitetail next year in NH. Somehow, I doubt that any deer I manage to put your hot lead to is going very far.

Best regards, y'all. Tokyo and Lisbon trips coming up in February. I'll be damned if I go out like a slug, on my deathbed talking about, 'I wish I'd done more when I had the chance...'

Do it to it and never, ever look back.

Assuming I understand your question, it wouldn't matter either way. That said, my wife, following a clean bill of health and now determined to be cancer free after her recent double mastectomy and associated shytshow medical procedures, is doing great and continues to stun me with her strength and ability to brush off what would crush lesser people and leave them curled up in a ditch begging for help. She just got back from CT after working 3 weeks straight for Pfizer doing a clinical trial for a diabetes drug. Scary what she related to me on the human guinea pigs, but whatever.

We weren't blessed with children, but owe no one anything in this life and have no one to leave anything to. I'd trade everything material in this world to be able to continue my family lineage, but that's not happening, sadly. We've accepted that, and have embraced the idea of our life lived together never looking back and not having any regrets, but for our inability to have children.

Our response to the reality of our life together is pretty simple, I think: love each other hard, defend and protect each other to the death and travel the world, enjoying every single moment we have together and snatch every single opportunity of life in our hands and then queezing. We live life literally on our own terms, and try to be as good and generous as we can to family and friends. Other than that, FTW. That answer your question, I hope?

Having seen how many there are along the coast, I’ve was wondering what the situation was with the lab and alligators, obviously they must have something worked out.

I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties your wife has been experiencing.

I believe we may have enjoyed your rain all day yesterday during our Rifle Match. It is sure muddy here in South Central Missouri.

That BBQ Grill / Smoker looks awesome.

Looked like it would be a mess getting the tire back on the Roxor.

Looks like you are eating well, I did not see a PB&J sandwich in any of the pictures.

I really enjoyed the pictures. Keep having a great time.

And you hit Praseks... man do they have the stuff...

Just back from Palacios this morning. Not many ducks. Way more snow geese than anything else. The weather was a bit strong the last week or so.

Great pics!

The older i get, its more about the fellowship than the actual hunt.

Hey Rodger will you explane your BBQ system, I am thinking of a outdoor boiler with heat system for a shop and greenhouse wondering if i could incorperate something like that, are you using charcol, pellets or firewood.

Let me know if you want to run out to Big Lake sometime and sit in a tent jigging for some char! I was gonna go today but didn't want to deal with driving out the Glenn with the snow. The next couple of weeks (and then after into March) before I have to head to Vegas for a soccer tournament I'm gonna try to be out there.

I’d shoot a ‘gator in a heartbeat, high reproductive rate, they’ll come right back. My brother in Florida has two labs and water right over his back fence. Those dogs never get their feet wet, big gator hangs out right there. No kids fishing, same deal, all because of a fuggin lizard.

I’m glad that you and Roger version 2 had a great time 🙂

Sage advice, hombre. One of these days I'd love to get together, hang out doing something outdoorsy and having a cook off or something. Your skills in the kitchen are clear. Your taste and luck with pretty girls are, too. wink

Hey Bristoe, you and Morgan are welcome anytime, brother. Betcha' that old yeller boy of yours would very much enjoy playing with a just killed bird, too. wink

Thanks to all you boys for the comments. It really was wonderful rolling deep again with STX. Man, the memories we've made together. Come June, he'll be up here behind enemy lines again, and I suspect there just might be some big fish involved.

Get after it, y'all. Only one shot at this game.

But, will not use that as an excuse.

Nice bull Jag! He have a full sprig? They usually blow through up here before there's any length to them. Well done, none-the-less.
