Is there anyone that could help me with a quick load estimate of velocity from a 12” barrel 308 shooting a 110 Barnes tac-tx? I’m guessing something like a starting load 4895 is going to have me in the velocity range I’m looking for.
Trying to determine the feasibility of a project. Thanks for any help.

Give Hodgdon's 15" barrel pistol data a look, then knock off 30 fps per inch.

At 86.5% total burn with H4895, you're going to have a pretty good powder flame, done set the woods on fire.

I use 16" barrels all the time with my .308s and I can say from experience that 4895 is way too slow, you need a faster powder for a barrel under 18" to get the best performance. My current powder is AR-Comp.
Let me correct myself, I just ran the numbers in QuickLoad for IMR 4895 and it works well in a 12" barrel. It looks very promising with a slightly compressed load of 46 grains in case trimmed to 2.009" and a COAL of 2.75" using a Lapua case. Lapua cases are expensive but they typically have larger capacity than most other brands.
My estimates are that you'll see something in the neighborhood of 2450 to 2500 FPS at the muzzle.
As is typical, start a grain or two low and work your way up.

Not the same length, but my CTR 20" 308 will run 155 scenars at 2840 with varget. I was told that I could get more velocity from CFE-223, I just haven't tried it yet.

I don't base my choices on muzzle velocity, I look for loads that produce the tightest groups while keeping the muzzle velocity as high as possible. As a result, I usually don't have the highest velocity but I get very consistent groups that hold less than an MOA out of most of my rifles.

I appreciate the help offered in this thread. I was more concerned with velocity potentially being too high for what I was wanting to do. The velocity seems to be where I would want it though.
I think my real issue is going to be just too much unburned powder at the end of the barrel. Looking now into how something like 30 BR may do in that barrel length. Trying to see what I can accomplish with a shorter barrel while using a .473 case head action.
