Need to replace the barrel on an L579 (short action).
It's the varmint model, so it has a wide forend and a barrel channel that can handle a heavy barrel - although I wouldn't mind a standard contour, even if it ends up with some extra "free float" room.
Not interested in springing for a new barrel, so don't bother recommending one.
I would consider nearly any cartridge suitable for a short action.
Anyone have a lead I can follow up on?

It uses a common 1"-16 thread like many others, but shank length, cartridge protrusion, and breech shape will be some differences to watch for. Gunsmith skills needed for fitting/adapting. Go here, click the "inch" column, and scroll down to 1"-16. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrel_threadsBruce

How about a rebore? Much less expensive, no stock mods needed, still looks the same. You might be very old before you find a good take-off.
What fresh Hell is this?

Find a stainless heavy barrel from a Remington 700 223, cut, re-thread, rechamber, contour and polish as you please

E-Bay og gunbroker, easy enough to filter out to rifle barrel on both engines.

I have a L579 that I inherited in 220 Swift. It is missing everything except the barrel and stripped action. I would love to see someone be able to get some use out of it.
