I like to salt it then steam it. Serve it with new potatoes and lots of butter or maybe some white (bechemal) sauce too. I eat smoked black cod the same way, but don't salt it first. A great winter meal!

I usually get it at Costco in Fairbanks for pretty cheap when I go to town. Seems like its about 8 to 9 bucks a pound. I used to catch them on occasion when I lived down on POW but now that I live in the land of no fish I have to eat my pride and actually buy it if i want to eat black cod

$9.99 at Costco on Dimond yesterday. Lightly floured and pan fried it is wonderful! The oil just runs out of it on the plate.
Market is in the toilet because they found a huge new population in the Barrantes Sea and added 10 million pounds to the World supply. That was a couple years ago.

I used to get some smoked black cod from a guy down in Homer. Damn it was some good stuff! I tried smoking some myself but have yet to replicate what he did. Done right, it’s pretty hard to beat.

I have had Atlantic Cod, but never had Sablefish/ Black Cod, but I have read that it's like eating Buttery Fish, pure bacon of the sea. I am going to call my fishmonger to see if he carries it. I must try it!

My absolute favorite are the collars...... Either pan fried or smoked they are about the best thing you can eat out there.

I know a guy that fishes for black cod in Prince William Sound in the 400- 440 fathom trench & get black cod fresh off the boat at $5 lb, got 50 lbs of PWS black cod fillets in the freezer got a couple of oven baking recipes but a sea salt, smoky roasted seasoning and bbq sauce fix in the air fryer is awesome when you need a quick bite, is fantastic over fresh steamed jasmine rice

Prolly didn't offer in Kenai though anyway... I think the only fish at kenai 3 beers is of the “sticks” variety. 😆
