A friend introduced me to a new imbibement. It is Crown Royal and sprite/7-up. Pretty tasty.

We used to call that “Gods drink” way too sweet for me now, but back in the day, it was like drinking candy! You could really get hammered drinking it, quick!

I don’t drink alcohol. It’s really bad for you. I don’t care if you do, and to show how much I don’t care I wanted to post here and tell you all that. I’m not judging you, but you’re going to hell for it But I don’t care. Really I don’t.

My dad owned a bar. He used to drink Seagrams VO with 7up or ginger ale, with a shot of club soda to knock down the sweetness. Said he wouldn't waste good Crown on a mixed drink. He called it a VO Press ( short for Presbyterian). Never knew why....

One of the popular drinks at Ban Me Thuot, whistler, was a "seben seben" which is how the bar girls pronounced Seagram's 7 and 7-Up. It was too sweet for me. I think they still make Seagram's 7, but I don't know why.

Hey Rocky, I can just hear them saying that. I did not drink even beer, even after a mission. Since I was kind of in charge of our little band I guess I was too afraid of losing my wits and screwing up if something happened. The rest of my little bunch had no such worries though and that was fine. When I was in Bangkok for a while, I did catch up on the drinking a bit though. In country I knew a clerk type and we became friends. He had the market cornered somehow on ice and he would only drink different fruit juices. When he knew we were coming in ( when he had time) he would make sure that his cooler was packed with ice and fruit juice. My favorite was V-8 and if possible he would make sure there was a good supply. I would sit there and drink I don't know how many of those small cans. Ice cold and a little bit salty--what a treat! The other variant was Canadian Club and 7, which the bar girls pronounced "see see seben"
One sad time, the bar ran out of everything but Scotch and root beer. That combo became our "initiation" drink to new FACs or ground crew. (Don't bother; it's horrible.) Our monthly movie shipment was in the same ambushed convoy that carried the booze. So we watched "McClintock" every night for the next month.
War really is hell.

Sad indeed. One thing I just remembered were the safe houses mentioned in another post. Usually a good supply of almost anything.
