120 factory ballistic tips from an 18" barrel ballpark speed? You all have some fine looking rifles?

It's kinda fun since the plain old cheap bullets work great. I used the plain old 200 grain Speers, 16 bucks a box this year. Worked as well as anything I could have paid 3X for.

I'd hazard a guess at 2700-2800.

Thanks. Not a bad speed for an 18'' barrel.

You guys feel the same way I did about mine.
Being realistic about it, there’s very little chance that I would ever get the chance to use it. If it was a heavyweight long range /chassis setup I could see keeping it. But it’s not.

I’m at a little over 2900 with a 20” hart on my Montana in 7-08AI, 44.5gr RL-15 under a 120gr NBT .010 off the lands for the best accuracy with that load. I’ll chrono to be certain this weekend if you’re truly interested. Light guns aren’t accurate though….

I'm a fan. I'd have more if they still made them.

From right to left:

.223 Rem
.22-250 with Brux barrel and trued action
.25-06
.25-06AI with Broughton barrel and trued action
6.5 RPM with Benchmark barrel and trued action
.270WSM
.300WSM with Bartlein barrel and trued action
.300WM (to be built into a 28 Nosler after I have fun shooting out the factory barrel)
.300WM with hang tag (to be built into a 30 Nosler after I have fun shooting out the factory barrel)
.338WM

(oops, found a .338WM stashed to the side, so I redid the photo)

That bad boy is a hammer! Great shooting my friend. Whenever you get around to it, I'm going to be laid up for 2 months or more.

Thanks

Impressive for sure. That is a royal flush. Which caliber do you like the best?

I bet that 22-250 is a sweetheart. What is the twist on it?

Thanks guys.

I had to make an edit: the .22-250 has a Brux 8T barrel, and is indeed a sweetie. So is the .223 Rem. It is a full-size rifle that carries like a little .22lr, but that easily shoots out to 300 yds. Ammo is cheap, too.

The 6.5 RPM was built by Kevin Weaver. It started life as a 25-06 in Kimber's original standard sized action. I wanted a little more omph, and Kevin suggested the 6.5 RPM as being about the most powerful cartridge that would fit. I get .264WM ballistics in a standard sized action.

Favorite caliber in that collection would be the .300WSM. Easy to carry in the elk mountains, but hits with undisputed authority; or easy to crawl through the prairie and still reach way out there. That rifle was built by Greg Tannel about 15 years ago. I feel real lucky to have this rifle. I recently worked up an antelope load with Hammer Hunter 124gn bullets. I get just north of 3800fps with H4350. I backed down to the 3700fps range for accuracy, though:

I am on the lookout for a Kimber Montana in 7mmWSM. I always seem to miss them by a day when they come up for sale in the classifieds.

Numbers tell the story. The ATF website publishes manufacturing data by US manufacture, itemized by pistol, revolver, rifle, and shotgun (so much for keeping your company data private from your competitors when the ATF publishes it.....).

Link to ATF statistics

My summary of Kimber's manufacturing data:
[Linked Image]

Rifles account for at most 6% of the annual volume.

Kimber has doubled their handgun sales in roughly eight years.

As much as we all like Hunters and Montanas, they simply can't compete with handguns.

I load 120TSX and V-max to 3050 from 22" bbls w/R-15. They're both right @ 3000 from 2 different 20" bbls.
