Do the new Kimber Hunter Pro Dissolve Black have the foam in the buttstock that the older brown/khaki models had that can be removed to reduce 6-8ozs?

Yes, they do. I pulled 8 oz out of mine. This one had nothing in the pistol grip section.
Have pulled 2oz out of that section on two examples of brown stocks.

I just bought one in .308 and don't want to mess with the pad screws unless I know it is there. Thanks.

In case you’ve never done it, squirt some oil along all the edges of the gel and slide a plastic spatula shaped tool, the type you can buy cheap for spreading plaster or bondo, along the edges. A long flat bladed screw driver is good for the tighter angles. Be patient, go slow, don’t create flaws (dents from the inside out) by being too aggressive with the screw driver.
Once it’s fairly loose you can spear it with the screw driver & pry it out.

“Chris84” on here, if he’s still doing it, makes excellent machined out titanium “ascent style” bolt handles for these that save some more weight and look/feel cool. I’ve bought & installed 3 of them.

I’ve also replaced the action screws with titanium.

WD-40 and a long flat head got mine out. Work the edges. I’ve pulled 3 rifles now…all weigh 8oz.

I am able to pry it some to get oil behind it along the sides. It is more dense than I anticipated. Very difficult to penetrate it when hammering a large screwdriver in the center. I am not sure I am making appreciable progress. I am still just trying to loosen it.

I've never done this, but will a cork screw twist into it to give more pulling leverage?

The suggested plastic spatula is less likely to gouge or dent the stock shell. As you work it, more oil will work down the gaps & encourage the release. Penetrating the gel won’t matter until you’ve worked the borders all the way down.

Then try stabbing the center with a knife in order to get a better start for the screw driver.

If you feel like lessening the hollow sound when things knock against the stock, “Great Stuff” type expanding foam can be used for a nearly weightless replacement filler.

And how does taking that much weight out of the buttstock change the balance?

Does 8oz really make that much difference?

I think it matters a lot when it all comes at one end of the rifle.

Add 8 oz to the barrel weight & see what happens.

But in this case, I don't know if it's still well enough balanced to matter.

I would expect it to be pretty significant after doing some work to re-balance my 416 Rem M70 that dropped a fair bit of weight when I swapped the factory stock to a McM. This on a much heavier rifle.
