Loaded up 9 rounds for my 7600 using 180 Hornady RN. Between 56-56.5 of IMR 4350 with 180's works in every 30-06 I ever shot it in. Loaded up 3 sets of 3 with 56 gr's seated .020 apart for each set.

Since it's peep sighted I just shot at 50 yds to try and eliminate human error in group sizes. Shot the shortest OAL first and it shot pretty tight. The next batch .020 longer went some bigger so I didn't even bother shooting the last 3 since I was heading the wrong direction. I'll just seat those 3 to the first length, and ring it out later at 100 yds.

Shoulda took another gun along to shoot. 6 shots and I knew what I wanted to do and was done. Boo. What's the fun in that?! Lol.

Looks like you also drilled out the tip of the bullets? I tried that on some cast bullet's in a 30-06 but didn't look any where near as nice as those. also tried some HP bullet's in that 30 filling the HP with epoxy. Don't remember why I did that!

Nope, that's just the lead tip you're seeing on the end of those RN.

Those 760’s are known to be accurate, giving a good bolt gun a run. I never could get 740’s to shoot that tight, even though they’re pretty similar in construction.

Agree on great shooting for a peep sight. Your eyes must be a lot better than mine. I’ve graduated to scopes only.

I can see the front sight pretty decent, can see the target. Any type of rear sight is getting blurry for me, so that's where the peep clears that up. I can still manage with rear sights but need a little time first to double and triple check getting things lined up. Peep is so much easier for me.

Far as accuracy, this rifle has been consistently so with 150's and now is showing it wants to shoot with 180's. I never put a scope on it so don't know how well I could do with it scoped. Maybe no better! Ha.

I must say that's good shooting with the peeps!

All you need in the woods

I won a Remington 742 in a band fundraiser raffle. Mine loved 165 grain Hornadys with 57 grains of 4350 powder. I mounted a cheap Weaver Marksman 4X on it and shot similar 3 shot groups at a 100 yards. You had to keep the chamber super clean with that little dogleg brush to prevent jamming. It was just heavy. Great for dog hunting and deer drives. I remember a time when we were short of drivers so someone came up with the idea of giving each driver an empty gal milk jug with rocks in it. The deer were hauling butt that day. Most of the standers lost shirttails too. I still laugh at the memories of that hunt. Old man next to me said, “Them does wuz just a puttin a foot down every now and then just to guide themselves.”Fast and furious.

Good shooting. Especially with that stock. Do you find your eye lines up naturally with the peep or do you need to make an adjustment with your head each time? I have one 7600 with that stock and scoped it.

And BTW 760/7600 and 180RN are peanut butter and jelly.

With the raised comb I need about 1/2 second after shouldering to get burrowed in where I'm centered in the peep. When I snap it up I'm looking through the peep, but through the upper half.....a persons eye naturally looks for the most light which with a peep is in the center, so I just need that fraction of time to line it up. Not ideal but also not way off when I snap it up. To be perfect it should have another stock, but if given any time at all, it's of no issue.

The most natural alignment rifle I have with a peep is a Rem 141 with a Lyman tang peep. With that straight stock, if I pick out a dot or something on a wall and snap the gun up, my eye is looking right through the center of the peep.

I couldn't use the raised comb with a receiver sight but it's perfect for a low mounted scope.

Cut that bbl to 20" and see if you don't like it better. I bet you do.

Good looking rifle. I've heard other people say that a peep sight was a no go with a raised comb stock......my opinion (and I could be wrong) is that I have a smaller than average head and the distance between my cheekbone and eye is less than some so it doesn't seem like a big deal to me with this stock. That said a straight stock would likely be perfect.
