Maybe tap the brakes a bit. From the article.

"The Virginia Senate has not taken a floor vote on its version of the bill. If it passes the House and Senate, it goes to Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who could veto it."

The house. Still has to go through senate, and if it hits Youngkins desk he’ll veto it.
The real danger is next election cycle when we get a D governor which is a good bet. Then VCDL and I’m sure GOA will take it through the court system which is the reason it’s so important to at minimum donate to these organizations. Hopefully there’s enough people like last time to go to Richmond and stand up to them again in force.

Coorect. Just past committee. It will never get past Youngkin, even if it gets past the house and senate. But ti may get past the house and senate. The baby-killing, cross-dressing, pedophiles have a slight majority in both.

This was a vote of the entire house, not just the committee. It passed by 51 to 49. Still has to get by the senate and the governor which is unlikely.

Hope your gov has more ballz than ours. Oh, wait. It was our Gov's bill that outlawed 174 specific guns plus others that had scary things like thumbholes, threaded barrels, large capacity ammunition feeding devices (more than TEN rounds).

This is going nowhere.

Political posturing in an election year.

Quote
. While the bill would not impact assault weapons manufactured before July 1, it does prohibit younger Virginians, those under age 21, from owning, selling or transferring assault weapon regardless of manufacture date.

The above is also a deal breaker. Some Circuit courts have already ruled that banning 18-21 year olds is Unconstitutional. This restriction will be headed to the SC very soon.

The state has no legal authority to do so.

Calm down a little bit.....

They tried this crap 4 years ago WITH a full boat of leftist powers in all 3 branches and it didn't fly. Folks is ignorant or VERY short memoried because the picture below is what happened in January 2020 when thousands upon thousands, most fully armed, packed Richmond and shut down their anti-gun agenda.

This is not likely to become law with Youngkin in office.

Even if it did, it's not much different than Clinton's federal ban. Bans the future sale and transfer of newly manufactured "assault weapons", and doesn't affect what's already in circulation. Not good at all, but it's not a total ban and round up situation. Which even the staunchest regressive liberal leftist POS in Richmond knows would not end well in Virginia. Good luck messing with folks that are just better off being left the f uck alone. They full well know the bear they're poking and are very careful how big of a stick they use.

Also, things are never always permanent in VA. Change the powers that be and s hit laws can be repealed. For example, the "one handgun a month" law gets kicked back and forth like a soccer ball depending on who holds power.

"Dan Helmer’s bill would end the sale and transfer of assault firearms manufactured after July 1, 2024."

Gotta love the irony of democrats. Ban guns "to save live." But chop up pre-born babies even as they are being born.

There was a ruling and precedent set that restrictions on the Second Ammendment must have an established history dating back to the time the Bill of Rights was adopted. Not sure I am explaining that right but I wonder if these firearms bans that are clearly unconstitutional are part of a plan to argue that firearms not in existence at that time are not protected. Any thoughts?
