Just got one for fun. It is a 1998 Remington BDL/SS. Scope is a new Meopta 2-10 x40 Optika 5 . I shot it for the first time this past weekend. I had some 270 LRX on hand and tried them with Ramshot big game. Got close to 2800 fps but really horrible group (2"). I also tried the hornady 270 gr Spire Point. One load with RL-17 did "ok" at 2705 fps and .85" group. Nothing else came close to this. I may have one of the infamous sucky Remingtons we all heard about, but we will see. I will reshoot the aforementioned group to verify the .85".
Anyway what loads do you guys use in your 375 H&H. How is velocity and accuracy? Thank you!

Reloder 15. 70-74 grains depending on which 270 grain bullet and what brass. Federal Mag primer.

I've used A-Frames, TSXs, and all three generations of Hornadys. Nosler, Remington and Winchester brass.

Varget and IMR4064 get honorable mention.

The 375H&H is dead easy to load for.

RL15 is the go-to for the 375 but I would think that RL16 would work also. I've also played around with 4320 and H4895 as well as a few others but never with 270's. As stated above it is hard to find a combo that doesn't work well.

You mentioned fun gun. H4895, and H4350 with Hornady 300 gr. Interlocks or 300 gr. Privi PPUs (check Grafs) should bring group fun at around 2,450 - 2,460 fps.

It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

Many years ago, WW 760 several grains above the listed max load, with Hornady 270 gr. SP’s. through a Win. Model 70, 5 shots 1/2” capable.

I have no idea of the velocity nor the temperature sensitivity, as this was years before I got. a chrono! memtb

Don’t give up on the LRXs just yet. 2800 is a good number if your ES and SD is small. The LRX bullets are very position sensitive on the jump to the lands in my experience. 2” might tighten right down with some seating depth adjustments. Most of my rifles that shoot the LRX bullets well like a longer jump.

I like Reloder 15.5 and 270 grain TTSX in my .375 H&H. But RL-16 should work well too.

My rifle likes 66.5 grains of R15 behind literally any .375 bullet I've tried from 235 to 350 grains.
But for zero recoil low cost plinking try Trailboss or 15 grains of Red Dot with a cast lead bullet.

My M70 likes the 270 gr TSX over 73 grs of RE-15 in Hornady brass with the Federal 210M. The combo went brown bear hunting in 2015 (unsuccessful) and will head back again this summer. My LGS has RE-15 5#'ers for $229.

Anyone tried the Speer 235gr? How does it work on deer? What velocity range are you using? If you push it too fast does it fragment? Any info would be appreciated.
Have a Ruger number 1 in .375 H&H, and was looking at the Speer 235gr for some soft shooting fun, and maybe trying for mule deer.
Thanks for any info.

I've used 220gn years ago at normal loadings - on pigs it was like using a 308, but it blew rabbits to pieces. I think they were meant for the 375Win. I'm guessing that the 235gn would be fine on even small deer without varmint type exterior ballistic performance.

I've used the 235 Speers on deer quite a bit. Never had them come apart but you can drive them fast enough that they do more meat damage than desirable. This was on blacktail which typically weigh 110-130 field dressed. Worked fine on coyotes also. I switched to Barnes TSX 235's when Coomiefornia mandated lead free and they also worked fine.

You’ve got additional options with non lead.

Check out Cutting Edge, Hammer and Lehigh. Interesting technology. Not cheap but effective.

Plink with cheap stuff. Work up a load with the good stuff and use them for hunting.

Do you remember what the velocity was on the Speer 235’s you were using. Looking to work up a load for mule deer that doesn’t fragment.

Thanks

For 250 - 270 pills, reach for RL-15, IMR-4064, or Varget. Charge weights in the low 70s. Velocity in the 2,700 - 2,800 fps range from a 24".

I’ve ran 235’s through a bunch of our little whitetails starting out a little over 2900. Out of an 1885 28” barrel. Heavy dose of Rel 17. It usually leaves a 2” exit hole and departs for yonder.
Did have one come unwound on a buck. I got a little excited when the 1885’s lever got caught up in my coat and half opened as I shouldered it. Shot high and hit spine, found clean empty jacket stuck in a pine tree behind him. At least in the case of my experience, hot core doesn’t mean bonded. Jacket was clean as could be. Of course the deer dropped like lightning struck so didn’t call that a failure.
