interesting to see what they do and if others follow

the best deal (at least for lunch) in our area is Olive Garden - all you can eat salad, soup and breadsticks for $8.99. About the same price as a McDonalds combo meal (if you don't get a drink at OG)

-------------------
McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski addressed the uproar over soaring prices and has promised "affordability" in 2024.

According to Entrepreneur, Kempczinski spoke on an earnings call Monday and said the fast-food giant might tweak its menu with a new focus on affordability. Per the outlet, Kempczinski said higher menu prices led to McDonald's seeing a negative turn in sales during the last quarter.

"I think what you're going to see as you head into 2024 is probably more attention to what I would describe as affordability," Kempczinski said during the call, per the outlet.

According to Entrepreneur, McDonald's experienced its first quarterly sales miss internationally in almost four years during the fourth quarter of 2023, allegedly due to the conflict in the Middle East. Per the outlet, McDonald's believes Israel's war on Hamas will continue to affect revenue into the first quarter of 2024 and potentially the second quarter.

"Eating at home has become more affordable," Kempczinski said, per the outlet. "The battleground is certainly with that low-income consumer."

Theoretically - eating at home should always be affordable, if you're doing it right.

That said - tonight I'll go to my local bar and get a soda, burger and fries for 9.50 out the door. Cheaper than McD? They're neck and neck I think but the VALUE is vastly different.

Never mind the 50k tech industry jobs lost in January.
My wife’s son was one of them, Bay Area in CA.

Mickey D’s food is the fastest working laxative known to man. Eat and take a dump within 30 minutes. Sh*t in sh*t out.

I missed a similar McD report on last night's news that might be the stimulus for the OP. I suspect the remedy will be shrink-flation. Same product and name, just a smaller portion. I did a stop at a Dairy Queen a few weeks back, and portions looked to be maybe 15 to 20% smaller.

Burger King is holding up size wise but with a near 30% price jump. We'd hit them when traveling to the tune of about $18 for meals and drink. Last stop was $28.

Mac Donalds is the same price here as a sit down Cafe burger.

It's a no brainer.

Gaza my pickled pig's foot. The issue is minimum wage raises. You can't pay some pimpled fry dipper $20/hr and still sell those fries for a buck.

yea, smaller food sizes is definitely happening. Noticed it big time at Wendys

problem with McDonalds is they have a key product that has weight built into the name, unless they rename it the Royale with Cheese

Mandatory $15-20/hr for a snot nozed teen that can't make change without a register might have something to do with it.

Not a dis- just an observation.

McD portions have been getting smaller, and prices higher for several years already - maybe 10?

If a guy could get a Burger King Whopper with McDonald's Fries and an A&W Root Beer - all in one package at one place, probably worth 15 bucks minimum.

also Subway was getting beat up for their footlong that used to be well, $5, then $6 for a long time and now apparently is closing in on $11.

I haven't eaten at a subway since Jersey Mikes opened up in our town but damn...Subway is a thin ass garbage sandwich anyways ...but $11!

All fast food has priced itself out of the game. That's what $15/hour minimum wage accomplishes.

Biden can claim that he has ended obesity -- by making fast food unaffordable.
