They didn’t make them in 1960. The pad would be wrong for a 300 Mag also, should be a waffle type.

When did the .300 mag come out? 1963?

Stock, pad, and studs as mentioned. That would explain the wide checkering panels, too, I believe.

What's wrong with above ref specimen... Mixmaster non-collectible + whatever follows!
Below pix, real deal. Win Mod 70 pre '64 in .300 Win Mag. Sn 572xxx from 1963. Red web pad as noted above. Not the fit, finish nor Walnut grade of decade or so earlier, but absolutely functional and 'era-handsome for Standard Model. Compared to the following year Model 70, an Angel with wings! smile

Best!
John

A dead giveaway to know it was rebarreled is look at the proof marks. The one on the barrel is tdc, where the one on the receiver is on the left hand side. Mismatched, and a quick tell tale..

The first thing wrong is the price.

$3200 for a Frankenstein gun? Somebody needs to lay off the hooch because they’re drunk if they think that’s a reasonable price.

I shot three of my first four bucks with a borrowed pre-64 m70 .300 WM and didn't realize what dad's gun guy buddy had let me borrow. That guy is gone now, but he sure had a nice bunch of great Winchesters. I wish I knew then what I realize now.

My other auto is a .45

I have dealt with them a few times and the guy is nice enough. I really think it isn’t malicious I think it is a lack of knowledge. I have pointed a few things out to him before on some other rifles and he was asking how I knew, wanted more knowledge, etc.

AKwolverine: Well I have to give that "gunshop" some credit to fessing (eventually?) up to the fakery - but posting that ridiculous price would preclude me from ever frequenting that shop.
Shame.

Yep. Credit where credit due.

Might have to modify his price if he ever wants it to sell.
