Red spotlight...lots of good ones out there from Foxpro, Wicked Lights, Sniper Hog lights etc.

Dave, tell us more about the area(s) you'll hunt - close cover or more open?

Edges of open love grass fields. Mesquite with a little shinnery oaks. Typical west Texas territory. Mostly hunting alone. Little brothers has a night vision scope on a 300 blackout he’s letting me borrow…but I can’t imagine using that to scan the area with a electronic call doing it’s thing…don’t like the idea of pointing a gun to identify targets

Bare minimum, red spotlight and a tripod or shooting stick, call and gun. Or build a killing chair in the back of your truck. Check out the night crew on YouTube.

Killed a few just east of Lubbock back in the day. Lots of fun. Buddy had a platform above his Bronco with a chair on it that swiveled 360. Had a T bar to hang the light on and support the gun when shooting.

Its gonna be tough alone. You can get a mount for your red light that attaches to your scope...but then you're scanning with your rifle...Only thing I can think of is two red lights, scan with one until you see a target incoming, then switch to your gun mounted light.

You "might" consider what color light to use, a Red light or a Green light? Some say the green doesn't spook 'em as bad as the red light. I've personally not used a green light, and my scope mounted red light works just fine. I use a 6v Primos Night blaster with the halogen bulb. Lights up good, but don't expect the charge to last all night, more like 2 hours constant on.

Sniper hog lights has a good headlamp and gun light. Focusing beams on both. Scan with headlamp transition to gun light to shoot. Highly recommend a tripod. I like the bog pod carbon with death grip for the money.

Red light in my opinion and nice thing about the sniper hog lights are the battery systems. Easy to carry extras to hunt for a few nights

Not sure of your budget but a thermal scanner and thermal scope. I’ve used lights, IR and thermal and thermal is by far and away my favorite. Good luck!
