It seems like pigs are everywhere until you want to shoot some. Where are easy pigs… That’s funny right there. I grew up in texas. I ask my texas buddies about hogs and it’s like yeah they are all over. Then you ask when was the last hog you a shot. Then it’s like oh um uhh my cousin shot 1, 5 years ago or something. Everyone in texas claims to be a hunter but nothing seems to get shot. Same ole story. No public land, Know someone, pay someone, or buy the land. That fact is why I will never ever move back. Let some western public land hunters loose, like some Utah or nevada boys loose and the hog problem will be solved. no, it wouldn't. LOL. He's never been right about anything he said here. Why would he start now? The good part is that he's staying away. Gott wonder if it's painful being such a petty little man. For what it's worth, my nephew had a party of hunters out here last spring from Idaho. They had ample opportunity to kill at least a half dozen hogs and the didn't hit a damned thing. Seasoned hunters supposedly. It happens.

If you had time I would say drive up here to the SE corner of the panhandle and I would take you out to do some night/thermal hunting. I've been busy with stock shows and giving all the critters a break the last 6-8 weeks. We just got home from our last show yesterday though. Fixing to start hitting the pigs and coyotes hard. May even go tonight.

I hunt public lands with some very very minor exceptions. Hogs don't live here because they would be dead.

If we live where you do, we would be hunting public land, not much here that isn’t over run with hunters. I wish I didn’t have to pay. That would be nice. Pigs don’t show themselves much if they have been hunted, mostly nocturnal. They get trap shy too

I got a place near Weatherford that we are going to try.
Meanwhile it is fun to watch BuzzH continue to impress himself and Callnum… Great! Good luck and if you do get Buzz don't drag him, you'll just end up hurting yourself. No kidding. Here is BuzzH in all his glory. Bragging about all the miles he hikes that would wear out a lesser man. What a picture of fitness… Dressed like a fuqkin bum

Barry, that map shows them in our county. I've never heard of them, but this is a fairly large county with some areas of private land (people and farms/ranches) in all corners. 1 pig shows up on this report for 2021. That report also shows the majority (90%+ I think) were taken on private lands, which makes sense in Cali. Look at an ownership map overlain on a watercourse map and most every low gradient watercourse is surrounded by private lands and some of the higher gradient streams too. Seeing as how water is pretty scarce here, those are the areas that got setlled/homesteaded. Not a very high success rate, but I know a number of folks hunting public lands purchase a tag in case one is seen while hunting other game. Tag return for successful pig hunters is mandatory and provides the data comprising this report. In the 2020-2021 hunting season, tag sales increased 13.5 percent from the 47,498 tags sold in 2019. Furthermore, 3,950 wild pigs were reported taken, representing a 1.8 percent decrease in the number of successful tags returned from the 2019 season of 4,022. A total of 53,923 wild pig tags were issued making overall successful tag return 7.3 percent. To read the whole report you'll have to add the https:// to get it to work as if I try to copy and paste it gives an error message nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=195201&inline

Seeing as how water is pretty scarce here, those are the areas that got setlled/homesteaded. When I was a wildlife specialist in NM, we had them in the Lincoln Natl. Forest. Most people didn't know they were there, but people who saw them and found damage called in to report them. I ended up writing the feral hog management program for the Nation Forest Service, but was clear that there was only a limited expectation of making much difference. USDA and others did go to work on them though. It seems like you go forever without seeing any, or sign of them, and them BAM!, they explode in that area, and everyone has them at least periodically.
