Funny thing about miniguns is that most people think they are a spray and pray weapon. Had a different perspective about them shortly after they became one of my tools. Point fire for me, reason was simple. They Army version was 4,000 rounds/minute max. For scout ops the ranges were short, usually under 100 yds. To illustrate:
A dink had an observation post platform near the top of a very large tree, maybe 150’ tall with a 5-6’ butt diameter. He was trying to hide, but my desire was to eliminate the observation post. At a range of about 30 yards, I cut the tree down with only two full bursts of 3 seconds. The holes I gnawed were about 12” diameter, first centered, the second offset about a foot. Hope he enjoyed the ride. The other two were 12.7mm AA positions, one at about 50 yards when I opened up, the second about 1050 meters. Destroyed the gun of the first, and the crew of both. First gun was severely mangled on the first burst.
Yeah, you can be a Hollywood Hero if you want, but you only need one and reasonable precision.
