That is the very definition of "feral hog". In Texas, any hog/pig not in a pen/pasture is considered vermin and open game.

The Spanish explorers started it. Knowing they would be coming back into the same area, they released the pigs they had on their ships to reproduce and provide a food source when they returned.

Sheep raisers along the Mexican border were having problems with coyotes killing their lambs. They eventually imported the true "Russian Boar" into Northern Mexico. Russians would root out entire coyote dens, eating pups and whatever else they discovered. Sadly. When they cleaned out the Mexican red wolf and the coyotes, they simply (swim? swam? swum? swimmed?) CROSSED the Rio Grande into Texas! Thanks guys!

The "javelina" isn't a "hog" at all, nor it related to the swine family. It is a "peccary".

geedubya, do you have a season, and tag system, for gators in TX?
Or has Fish & Game opened some kind of eradication program on them in certain areas?

Yes, the season in "core" counties ran 20 days from 9/10 to9/30 last year. I imagine it will be the same this year.

TPWD publishes rules and guidelines, which can be found online.

Basically tags are distributed by TPWD to private land owners based on acreage, that fronts water IIRC. I am on a lease at Halls Bayou Ranch, Santa Fe, Tx. which encompases 25,000 acres or so. The Ranch got 26 tags last year. We purchase the tags from the ranch.

Nobody mentioned javalina but you, dumbass.

The discussion is on feral hogs. Try to stay focused here...

The map I posted was a 2015 USDA APHIS map. But there's an updated map too. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ou...nal-activities/feral-swine/sa-fs-history

You been over every square inch of those areas in Nevada and Utah? You been damn busy. Maybe you missed a few properties? laugh

I went to Maui once and didn't see any wild hogs there... Must mean they don't exist, right?

If we could buy you for what you're worth and sell you for what you THINK you're worth, we'd all get rich! laugh laugh[/quote] every square inch of those nevada and Utah counties? Not quite but almost. I dare you to call the department of wildlife in both states and ask about feral hogs.

Look I lived in texas till my mid 20’s. The hogs are way over blown. There aren’t that many, the people that actually shot them and really hunt them are few, despite what many might claim.

Goddam you are ignorant.

This map is several years old, but shows where they are in multiple states in the west with lots of public land.

I saw my first, and only feral hog ever, in Virginia last year. Driving on Rt 460 through Southampton County. It was boar that had been hit by a car and was already dead. Big ass pig. Black and brown. I had heard there were some in that area, but in a lifetime of living here, it's the only one I've seen. Southampton is white on that map.

You even can't use the quote function right.

Do the state wildlife departments have jurisdiction over feral hogs?

Maybe you could check with USDA Wildlife Services in both your states? They are the ones who compiled that map and data. I'm sure they'd just love hearing from you. laugh

He's got the market cornered on "stupid".

Some of us kill more hogs in a week than he's ever seen in his life. laugh

LOL.

You were never successful hunting hogs anywhere at all, therefore no one else could possibly be any good at all at it.

Being bitter ain't gonna boost your stature.
