I was not a Dale Earnhardt fan. I was a Rusty Wallace fan but when Dale died NASCAR died. I used to love watching the races and going to the tracks. I’ve watched 2 races in 3 years.
Benny Parsons said the Darlington repaving was like putting a tuxedo on a rattlesnake.
I remember Kyle Pettywas in the garage after applying the “Darlington Stripe” on his Pontiac. “I think we outta fill it with water and stock it with fish!” He said, “but not Bass though, it ain’t good enough for Bass. Maybe Carp!” I quit nascar when they were pulling dates from some great tracks where their fan base lived in order to get into new markets like Chicago and New England. Seemed to me like the France family was spitting on the young ladies who always danced with them to chase after the rich women in fancy jewelry.😒 But I did watch Daytona in 2001, for the return of Dodge. It was the last race I watched… Reon

I was an Earnhardt fan, and I agree, when Dale died it was over. My interest steadily waned after that mostly because of constant and detrimental changes to the sport that would've never happened or would've been severely slowed if Dale was still around. I got to the point I hardly watched it anymore and about 8-10 yrs ago I quit watching it altogether.
One is alone in a land so vast, there is only the mountains, the wind, and the eyes of God.
With the death of Earnhardt, the world cars, mandatory yellow flags, the lose of the short tracks, restrictor plates, and turning their backs on their fan base nascar is nothing but a memory. I have not watched a race since Sr. passed away. It has turned into a circus.
