I have a bunch of 40 grain Blitzking bullets and I am wanting to try them in the AR, 1:7 twist.

I know it's normally a try it and see deal but don't want to bother if the general consensus is don't bother it doesn't work 80% of the time.

Has anyone this and had good luck or am I wasting my time?

Coming apart in flight. Spinning a very thin jacketed 40 grain bullet pretty good.

Just avoid the really "explosive" models. I shoot 40 gr V--Max, Blitzing, Varmageddon, & Ballistic Tip regularly in 1-7's without problem.

Whats your definition of really explosive?

Kind of what I was wondering.

Only thing that "may" be more explosive than a Blitzking or V-Max would be a TNT, SXSP or a Sierra Blitz. I know for sure the SX, Blitz or TNT can be torn up easily even in standard twists if pushed hard.

TNT, Blitz. For all I know they may hold together in 1-7 too, I've just always avoided them.

👍🏻

Some of the TNT bullets have a velocity ceiling put on them by Speer.

It's one of those, You never know until you try it deals. Just hate to waste time and components if the general consensus says it doesn't or rarely works.

I may shoot a half dozen later today and see if they make it to the target.

last bullets I smoked were 7 twist 223 64 grain berger flat base and not all that terribly hot. Thankfully they started using a tougher jacket.

None of the Blitz, TNT or SX types will survive a 7" twist consistently. Most other bullets will, but not 100%. I have a batch of Sierra 60gr HPs that give me poofs even with pretty mild loads. That's normally a tough enough bullet.

They are great, if you use the bullets they were intended/designed to shoot.

Yes, but all the supporters of fast twist say they shoot everything just fine. I have no use for a 77 gr out of a ..22 caliber rifle. If you do, fine, but apparently they are not the answer to all situations.

Same here. 1-8 Tikka 22-250 was amazing with 40 BTs as well.

The lightest/most fragile bullet I shoot in my 1-7s are 50-55gr V-Max…..and they hold together as well or better than a lot of the over 70gr match stuff I’ve tried.

I have not bought any of the 60s in years. But as many 7 twists as we burned out we never toasted one of those. I"m kind of surprised but you never know.

I swear I'm not picking on you. But over 70 has not held together in your 7 twists? If they have, I'm kind of thinking out loud, what are you saying when you say the light ones hold together better than the heavies?
