They thought they had the 2016 election predetermined as well. It simply turned out that they vastly underestimated Trump's popularity. They spent the next four years lying about Trump and telling us that Trump was losing a lot of support. Then, Trump went out and got 11,000,000 more votes in 2020 than in 2016.
"Fortunately" covid just happened to come along at just the right time to give them an excuse to change some election rules. The deep state and the media knew full well that Trump had been gaining support, not losing support. Anyone who thinks that the covid scare wasn't mostly political is blind, naive or just plain stupid.

This has been coming for a very long time. It was only a matter of time until the citizens united behind a popular nominee that ran on a platform they all wanted managed to get elected. Previously our candidates ran on platforms that danced around popular opinion and Constitutionality but when elected they ignored their own platform. Trump was our guy. He was not the DNC/RNC political machine pick. He was not controllable and they could not allow him to complete his agenda that the citizens wanted. Our government is largely ran by it's everyday bureaucrats in the various agencies and the Pentagon. Threaten their authority at your own peril. Congress is controlled by lobbyists and the FBI's vast dossiers on every individual in government. Our government is infected by a disease that creeped in many decades ago and grew until it completely took over.

I’m sometimes dumbfounded by the collective IQ of the American people.
Folks are willing to accept now, things that 20 years ago would have been impossible to be accepted by the population!.
Christ, even my own Son. True he had public schooling, but I know that Carol and I went far out of our way to insure in him the ability to think for himself. We both told him to dig deeper, get both sides of the issue, and decide accordingly.
Maybe college and living with that liberal “woman” clouded his judgment some, but I can’t buy this extent.
I truly fear for our future.
As I said, the “hill to die on” is and was the integrity of our elections. If we can’t put in who we want, or vote out who we want, what good is going to vote?
Accepting the results of 2020 was probably the last nail in the coffin of our republic. I already told a very close friend, that even at my age, (I’m 58) I don’t anticipate a natural death.
Things have gone too far. People my age, because we grew up in a free country, are now considered “a threat to democracy”!
Push is literally coming to shove, but we’re to freaking busy watching tv to understand what is going on around us!
