I have had a 1 - 4 Leupold VX-2 Shotgun/Muzzleloader scope with coarse duplex crosswire and set for (IIRC) parallax free at 75 yards on a Marlin .45-70 Guide Gun for over 25 years. That rifle has probably had something over 1000 rounds through it in that time, hot rod, 400 grain loads. It has killed deer from 80 degree weather in SC to 0 degree weather in NY. I think if it were going to break, it would have by now. It certainly seems like it's held up better than what you have been using.

I have a pair of first generation Nikon ProStaff 2-7x32 shotgun scopes on my 20 gauge slug guns with cantilever bases. I haven't shot either of them a lot, many 50 rounds in total, but those scopes have maintained their zero. I have one of those P3 scopes with the BDC200 reticle on it. It resides on my Rem 870 12 ga slug gun. Great scope. Too bad it isn't made anymore.

Leupold used to make a nice 2-7x shotgun scope with a heavier duplex reticle . When we gave up shotguns for deer and went to rifle( thank God !) I sold the shotgun and put the scope on my TC Omega muzzleloader. I love it. Probably still not made. That is the scope i use,Leopold Vari x 3 , 1 3/4 x 6 Heavy Duplex Shotgungun scope. On my Rem 1100 with Hastings Rifled Barrel, the one with the comp on the end.I use Lightfield Slugs in it for hunting in N.Y. slug only areas. I 've had it for about 20 years, still zeroed.

That Konus is the equivalent of a Simmons pro diamond or a Tasco pro point.

I've got a Tasco pronghorn 1.5 x 5----20mm on my 870. Killed 6 deer in the past 10 years in Southern Ohio. Holds zero & doesn't fog----works for me.

I've had a Weaver V4.5 on my slug gun for the past 30 yrs., no problem ever. Now we're allowed to hunt with pistol caliber rifles, I put the Weaver on my Remington 788 .44 Magnum.

That Konus is the equivalent of a Simmons pro diamond or a Tasco pro point. I have a dead Simmons Pro Diamond that I never felt the need to send back in. It lasted 11 shots of 2 3/4" Turkey loads. I give the Konus a big leg up over any Tasco or Simmons.

Years ago when I got my first 338 magnum I broke every 4 power Tasco Pronghorn they had in stock at Kmart with less than three shots. You have been very fortunate.

I didn't do a lot of deer hunting this last season. But I did take my Browning Maxus II cantilever slug gun out a couple of times. I had a Aimpoint T-2 on it. It's a good combo. It will shoot Remington Accutips into a couple of inches, more or less, at 100 yards. It definitely shoots minute-of-vitals. But I did find myself wishing for more magnification each time I went out. In fact, I have never found myself wishing for LESS magnification. But have wished for more quite a bit. This next season, I am switching things up. I have a few Leupold XV-3HD 2.5-8x36 scopes with nothing to do. So I have mounted those on a couple of guns: a Browning Silver 20 gauge and my Browning Maxus II 12 gauge slug. I have a couple Leupold FX-II scopes that might have done well, but there are times I want more magnification that that. I also couldn't get the eye relief I wanted with the FX-II. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with these guns and the 2.5-8s.

Nikon fixed 4x made in Phillipines. Got two. One started on 12ga, then moved over to 20ga. The second has always resided on 20ga. Both still performing intended function. Very bright too! And, when changing slug loads, they still dial and hold zero. Gawd I miss Nikon making riflescopes.

Simmons pro diamond. I kid you not. This is also what I've had on my 12-gauge slug gun for years. It's worked fine. They haven't been made in a few years.

I bought this same Konus last fall but have not had it to the range yet. I'm hoping it's the last shotgun scope I ever have to buy. kwg
