I absolutely love this guy! I believe him to be a national treasure.
He was a fiction writer, and agreed to do a 20,000 page article in 1954 on the Civil War for the centennial coming up.
But he smelled the smoke, and heard the guns, and the 20,000 word article grew into a masterpiece of 1 and a half million words that took 20 years to complete!
I’ve probably read his trilogy 5 or 6 times.
“The Stars In Their Courses” is a great cover of the Gettysburg campaign, and I will highly recommend it to anyone who visits the battlefield,
“The very ground talks to you”, his words ring true.
If you know what happened there, I caution you, you might find yourself lost in a battle fought over 150 years ago. It has happened to me many times.
