I bought a Remington 870 at the gun show today. It has a nice stock and I would like to keep protected. Is there any wax (protectant) for gun stocks? Would Johnson's paste wax work? Thanks for your input.

I had heard that Johnson's went out of production. FWIW I have used Gilly's Gun Polish (it used to be called Gilly Stephenson's) for many years. It is based on beeswax and carnauba wax, and has no abrasives. You may be able to buy it in the US, or order it from them (https://gillysaustralia.com.au/products/gun-polish). I use it on both timber and external metalwork, and it is a very good protector of both. Polishes meeting the same spec should do the same job.

My memory may be wrong on this, but years ago I thought Sitka Deer recommended Briwax. I don’t see it mentioned anymore in posts like this. But I have some I bought those many years ago and use it when needed.

I've never heard of Renaissance Wax. Sounds interesting. 44 yrs ago, my Uncle who built cabinets for a living told me to get a can of Johnson Paste Floor wax, imbed a piece of 0000 steel wool and a cotton cloth in it and use it to top coat finish any piece of wood I worked on. I've used his advice all these years and still have the original 16 oz can I bought in 1980 plus the same piece of steel wool and cloth which are completely saturated. A little bit goes a long way. It will make a gloss stock satin, it'll rub out any runs the finish has plus water proof it. After applying, buff with a microfiber cloth. It mirrically restores the oldest finish. It really amazing how much old school still works!
