He flies a fire fighting tanker. He just got a call to get to TX. He'll make some good money this week.
His assigned ride is a Dash 8, modified for the job. He said they stripped everything bigger than a toothpick to carry more payload.

Who does he fly for?

I don't know the name of his employer. They're based in Spokane, WA.

A while back they asked him about going to a big fire in Australia. He refuses to get a covid shot and they won't let him in the country. I totally agree with him on this one.

Good airplane for it. I worked on Dash 7s for awhile, the 4 engine version. Amazed me to have a 65kt stall speed on something that big.

Good luck to him, and my heart goes out to all that are suffering.

It's my understanding that the Dash 8 has been flying for 30 years and there's never been a fatal crash. They have one of the best safety records in the business.

God Bless Him for not taking the shot. I didn't either.

For those that may not be familiar with the Dash 7 and Dash 8. smile

I've flown hundred of thousands of miles on Dash 8s and really like the plane. It used to be the primary airplane for Horizon airlines.

Likely a CL-215 or CL-415. Once made by Canadair, but I think Bombardier bought that up.

The only ones I've seen that can do that are modified sea planes. I've never heard of a Dash 8 being capable of that.

As a followup, this was shot yesterday. Our SIL is flying the 3d plane you see. It shows a Dash 8 a couple drops later. I think that's him again. He said it's a wild ride. Besides the intense heat creating wicked thermals, when he makes the drop, the plane shoots up after losing the weight. This is flat land. He says it gets exciting in the mountains.
