Specifically the viper pst 30mm, FFP 2.5-10x32
Never owned one or really even looked into the brand, but know of one for sale for about 1/3 retail that looks new. Thinking about it for a .22lr.
Yay/nay?

In general I’d suggest avoiding Vortex except for Viper & Razor lines of products. My viper 6-20 is going strong on a 22-250 after 10+ years. They have a great lifetime warranty program on everything but it gets used a lot on lower end models.

The razors tend to be excellent, the Vipers very good quality. In my opinion all the rest are not reliable enough that I wouldn’t buy Athlon if I wanted cheaper Chinese scopes.

Have had some crossfire and diamond back scopes and never had an issue with any of them .
I don’t shoot a lot , maybe 50-70 rds a weekend
But have them on 30-06 , 308 , 45/70 , and have had them on the 300 magnums , Winchester and Weatherby
Just my two cents

I have Viper and Diamondback binos and both have been flawless. I have a Diamondback 2x7x35 on a 22 mag that has been flawless as well.

Vortex has a bunch of price points that they meet. Like noted above the Viper and Razor lines are quality optics. Below that the quality drops off to meet the price point.

Depends---what kind and how far do you usually shoot your 22 lr? If shooting longer say 50 to 200 yds, does the reticle have sub tensions for holdovers? If so using the FFP on the lower powers may not be as usable as you would like.

A company that will sell you a cheap Chinese scope for $199 will also sell you a cheap Chinese scope for $899. Buyer beware!

I've had great luck with my Vortex Razor 1-6x24 which was made in Japan. I've never had a Viper, but have heard they are decent scopes. They are made in the Phillipines.

I understand they offer lots of lines at different price points but really only interested in first hand experiences with the viper pst 2.5-10x32.
I can pick one up pretty cheap, if not for that I wouldn’t be looking at it.

I have used a Viper PST on my service rifle and dial the sh-it out of it and it's good to go. Tracks reliability and decent glass.

The 2.5-10x32 PST was easily my favourite of the Gen 1 PST scopes. It is a niche design, but it worked well and was surprisingly good optically.

At that kind of price for use on a 22, what do you stand to lose.

I have 5 of the Razor LHTs. One sits on an 8# 340 Weatherby. Has 300 rounds through it. I wouldn't consider any of the LHTs as true long range scopes but for hunting, they're tough to beat.

I have tried Vortex... they never worked out for me.
