Their service is going downhill, especially in their optical department and their tire department.

Had a poor experience with them today. Costco North Dallas on Churchill Lane

My 7-month-old eyeglasses broke last night. One arm detached from the hinge. Not a break, the joint simply did not hold. I twisted my head and the arm snapped off.

Went to Costco today. The clerk tried to refuse replacing or fixing the frames. She said phrases like “these are more than 90 days old”, “do you ever remove your glasses with one hand? That puts more stress in the frame.”

When I refused to accept her lack of an acceptable solution, she told me that the department manager could call me tomorrow.

I told her that the only acceptable answer was to tell me that could pick up my new glasses in a week. She glared at me and I glared back. Finally she gave me a look of exasperation, rolling her eyes upward, and said that she would talk to a manager.

She returned 10-15 minutes later; told me that she talked to Ashley the AGM; then told me that I would need to leave my glasses with them and I would have new frames in about a week. No apology.

Costco used to be great. Not so much now. When these glasses were originally made, they were way off from the prescription - it took a visit to my optometrist who measured the glasses to confirm the mistake. Costco then remade the lenses.

It would be easy to say that the young fat girl who waited on me is just a product of her generation. But she had obviously been coached for handling claims of poor frames - “do you ever take your glasses off with one hand”

A few months ago, a tire salesman refused to replace tires that were separating on the sidewalk - told me that I did not drive the car enough - again a BS rebuttal that was probably taught to him. I made enough noise until a supervisor came in - he replaced the tires at no charge. This experience was at Costco East Plano.

I was in Costco in Surprise AZ this last week.

Wasn’t as impressed as I thought I would be. Won’t be getting a membership.

I would have to give them praise for a problem my kid had with her hearing aids purchased in Nashville costco

And then when the Costco in Canberra Australia made repairs to them lickity split with zero guff or anyone resorting to acting like a KAREN

Clever move on Costco's part, botching his glasses so he can't read it.

Sometimes I find that the level of service rendered directly relates to the level of bitchiness received.

Car battery died. Turned out to be the alternator, but replaced the battery anyway with a Wally World unit.

Noticed on the old battery that it was a Costco Interstate and was still a month inside 3 years. They typically have a declining warranty that pays out a small percent by the 3 year mark. Figured it might be worth $20. Was headed there anyway.

Guy behind the counter refunded the full price. I sure didn’t expect it, and probably wouldn’t on 7 month old glasses either, unless it was under a stated warranty.

I’ve always had great service there.

Sensible, given that sidewalks are for walking not driving.

I do wonder if OP thinks sidewall is actually sidewalk. That would be funny.

Read the policies you agreed to when you signed your membership agreement.

Costco Optical Departments are Independent Vendors. YMMV based on location.

Reminds me need to check if my microwave light is still working,

Interesting to read the history of Costco. Co founded by Sinegal who was a democrat. The other guy was aJewish businessman from Seattle and his politics are unknown. Sinegal was a huge Obama and Hillary supporter.

I'll save my $60.

They've fixed both my hearing aids recently for nothing, while I waited even though they're two years out of warranty.

I hear ya. FWIW- I think he’s been gone for some time and Costco is a publicly traded company.

I will say it was a better store when he ran it.

Something has changed at Costco.

Several years ago, I found them to be exceptional about standing behind the products they sold. One eyeglass technician looked at my scratched glasses (obviously my fault), told me that they would replace the lenses for free. That was 14 months after I purchased the glasses. That was above and beyond what I expected - and it is why I today expect them to stand behind a set of frames that comes apart after a few months.
