I ran across a 11-87 premier 12ga today in a pawn shop. It’s in pretty good shape with only a few handling marks on the wood and some light freckling on the receiver. It doesn’t have the fancy engraving just plain. They want 450.00 for it so my questions are is that a good deal and are there things I should look out for before buying?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Solid buy in my opinion. I've got a couple they're good shotguns. Picked up this one last year in a pawn shop for about the same amount. They were going a couple hundred higher at the time online.

That a definite buy.

The only easily seen major items are broken magazine tube, or gas cylinder loose on barrel, both of which are uncommon.

A broken rail on the action bar assembly, bulged/stuck choke tube, extractor missing, are more common.

Yep, good buy if in good condition as you say. You will likely love it.

I liked the light contour model better. Lighter, I liked the "Light Contour" model marked on barrel. Mb

The one I had I bought used and it had seen some use, not bad, there were a few wear marks but it still looked good. I used it for Sporting Clays once a month for a four or five years and can't recall a malfunction. Got rid of it on a trade but it was a good gun. That seems like almost too good a price, probably because it's not "tactical".

Great guns. Do however, disassemble it and inspect some parts. How clean is it? Piston rings and O-ring, magazine tube to see if it has been destroyed by cleaning with sandpaper, check the locking bolt and the barrel extension notch for excess wear, etc. Make sure the gun will cycle dummy rounds, as the trigger group can get damaged/worn and not work properly.

Use a synthetic CLP in the gas system and on the mag tube. Cleanup becomes a breeze.

Love mine. Cycles everything. Easy to clean. Shoots good. 450 is a steal.

Every gun that uses choke tubes should be checked to see if they are free and removable. I've dealt with some NASTY problems with stuck chokes.
