A few days before I started my first year in college I helped shell a couple cribs of ear corn.

A friend and I had worked all summer as a custom crew putting up small hay bales. We worked by the bale and hit it hard, made pretty good money.

A friend of my dad asked us if we could come and scoop to the sheller, thought we could get it done in 2-3 days.

We only worked eight hours the first day and finished by four hours into the second day.

A scoop shovel is different muscles than a hay hook! Talk about sore muscles!

At least Joe paid us well.

Do you know if the farmer had to pay to have it shelled?Around here they used to do it for the cobs.
