Wondering if anybody who has quickloads would be willing to look up and see if Accurate 2460 would work with the 158gr pistol bullets in a 35 Whelen? It's the powder I have to load 200gr and it would be great if I didn't have to go out and find another powder for these.

The only Accurate powder data on loaddata.com for the Whelen with 158gr pistol bullets is for Accurate 2495...47 to 51 grains.

Graf’s has a much better price on the 180’s if they still have some. You’re referring to the HCFN, right?

Grafs was out of stock on those .

A2460 is faster than A2495, and there is data for RL7 and IMR4198, which are faster still. So I'm sure you can use A2460. You just gotta figure it out.

Hey…how ‘bout that. Good point. Didn’t read closely enough, I guess. But the point is the same…find some .357” 38 cal pistol bullets.

Good catch, I didn't notice that either! Glad someone did before I ordered, lol. Luckily I'm waiting on another member to get back and let me know if he had proper .358 rifle bullets first, so I was in no rush to order.

Good conversation. Enjoy that rifle. Yeah, the reason I'm using 9mm bullets rather than 357 pistol bullets is because, you got it, that's what's sitting here. LOL It's not a big deal, they shoot very well for me.

Makes sense. If it works, it works! Once again I appreciate the input, and thanks for responding and starting this conversation!

I’ve got various jacketed .358” pistol bullets downstairs if all you’re looking to do is break in the bore. I’d have to look, but I know they’re 158 or 180 Nosler and Hornady. I won’t use them as everything in pistol I cast and in my .35 big guns I use rifle bullets.

I would advise against using 9mm bullets for lapping the barrel. At a nominal diameter of .355 they may not lap the grooves as well as a 357/358 bullet would. I guess it all boils down to obturation.

I have yet to see any .358 pistol bullets. All of my pistol bullets are .357 and my rifle bullets are .358. With that said, .357 bullets would work just fine at the right pressure.

I was thinking the same, want something that pretty much fills the grooves to get the whole barrel smoothed out, so for this, definitely sticking with .357/.358 bullets for the first 50-100 shots.
