Howdy, Just picked up a Savage 112 Target in .338 Lapua. Never been fired. It has a Burris Eliminator III scope on it. Curious if anyone here has one and what your opinions are. From the literature that came with it, the range finding and calculations on bullet drop, windage etc. Seems like the cats meow.

I'll be using the rifle for both bench and hunting

Thinking this scope might be alittle complicated for my old brain....lol.

Wondering if I should keep it on the rifle, or sell/trade for something more traditional

Thanks

Friend of mine bought one a few years ago. It has the calculations in it for the ammo he shoots in that rifle. Push a button and it ranges the target. A red dot appears and that is the aiming point to make the shot at that range. It does work. The guy that programmed it for him is a bench rest shooter and a good shot. He shot it out to several hundred yards and it correctly adjusts for the correct POI.
His problem with it is that the actual scope glass is not useable in the early and late legal shooting hours. And it is a huge heavy awkward beast of a scope.

Thanks Hogwild7 for the great information. I had read alittle about the late hour issues with it. Guess I'll just have to set it up and see how it goes.

Thanks again

I have worked up loads and programmed a few. They work as advertised. That said they are not for me. I hate their look on rifles and their bulkiness and weight.

Thanks Fotis, I will agree about the looks. Dont have the funds right now to replace it, so will try and program it this weekend and see how it does.

The first one I did was for a Browning 300 Win mag. I worked up a 180 gr Accubond at 3050 fps and programed the scope. Owner killed a beautiful 5x5 mulie at 504 yards one shot.

Was getting it programmed fairly simple ?

Did you sight in dead on at 100yards and then setup load information ?

Thanks !!

Zero'd and set up one for a friend, you couldn't pay me to use one. Give me a nice reticle and turrets, I can zero it in just a couple minutes. Magnetospeed or Labradar gives me velocity, confirm at distance. Easy peasy

Hey guys, well I have thought long and hard about this scope. It's a great scope from the reviews I have read, but think I am going to pull it and see if I can trade it for a decent traditional scope for the 338.

It's like new, never had a rounds thru the rifle yet. Have all the paperwork that comes with it.

Watch the FS section, will put it up for trade soon.

Thanks
Bill
