It's more rare that an ag producer doesn't get some sort of benefit from USDA than not. More than likely even those that Blackheart hunts on...

if you look at it from that standpoint , we shouldn't get worked up with people on welfare....its called working the system.

That's the reasoning I've gotten in conversations about welfare in communities where it is a career. And it's across generations. It was more prevalent in one racial segment, but the last 35 years in my observation it has become more widespread. Working the system seems to be a career path in some quarters.

Part of that is us.

Previous to that it was my Aunt's.

We are in the Federal Crop program.


Since we have a mortgage, we are required by Federal Law to carry crop insurance.
No way around it.

We have to purchase coverage every year so that if there is a bad year, of which there are historically 91 out of 100, the Risk Management Agency gives money to the insurance companies who then gives it back to the bank.


The bank then gives it back to the govt.


It never touches our greedy little fingers. Literally. It goes from Govt to Bank to Govt.

We borrow the money to buy the insurance to make sure we can make our payments to the people we borrowed the money from.



It used to be a direct payment, but the boomers got together and started selling crop insurance so that there was much more room for fraud.

So there.

USDA pays me money to manage wildlife habitat.

It is an absurd program, but the money is very real.

Why in the world people WOULD NOT take back their own money is mind-boggling to me.

Hell... they even bought me a new truck... and paid for lots of my WV buildout.
