Skinny, tall, lanky....those people are affected.

Check that off the things for me to worry about.
Next visit I'll tell the doc I'm protecting myself from this!

it took me a few years but I think I am now protected too LOL.

back at that age I was probably a prime candidate. 18 years old about 6 ft 4 in tall 180

or that might not be considered that skinny I guess not as much as some of the stuff I've been reading about anyway..

I worked as a paramedic for years, I saw plenty of collapsed lungs, from GSW, from knife fights, also from car wrecks. I saw the ER docs install a chest tube dozens of times. The chest tube is about the diameter of your forefinger, and 14 inches long, the doc makes a little cut between the ribs with the scalpel, and then shoves that big tube in to the chest, boy does that make the patient squeal.

But I never saw a spontaneous pneumothorax.

A quick google turned this up. It's more common with smokers. Somebody would have to explain just what it means.

Quote
Primary spontaneous pneumothorax occurs in tall and thin young people due to increased shear forces or more negative pressure at the apex of the lung.

My uncle was very thin. No trauma and non smoker. His lung collapsed 3 times without warning and or trauma. Think it is genetic along with body composition of being thin (beanpole).
