Paternal Grandmother used this saying when us grandbrats were acting like rich kids asking for stuff.

I've heard about peanuts in Dr. Pepper.

Seems like a deep South thing.

Seriously though, peanuts in your coke would put lead in your pencil.

Try some Planters Flamin Hot peanuts if you can find them.

I assume that if I can find them....then the pygmys in Africa have had them for decades.

Gotta be tied to some comic strip or radio show before the flicker shows on the idiot box.

Ok Gotta go expect a good sampling when I get back.

Put them thinking caps on.

Edit to add: I now see Rooster7 beat me to making coffee from peanuts while I was composing my post.

Are you sure it's "Peanuts IN Coffee" and not "Peanuts AND Coffee"?

I've got family dating back to the 19th century in Texas. My maternal grandmother was born in 1886 and I was around her into my teens. My paternal grandfather, born in the early 1900s, was originally from Arkansas before moving to Texas as a young man. I've never heard of peanuts in coffee.

But, peanuts being a southern crop, I could imagine it being a deep southern "thing" to drink coffee while snacking on peanuts, hence "coffee AND peanuts," but that's just a guess. One might needed to have been fairly well off back in the day to afford both coffee and peanuts consumed together?? Like during the Great Depression? But that's just a wild guess.

Interestingly, I did run across this while doing a Google search:

Coffee is typically served quite hot isn't it?

You put your peanuts in there seems like it would get burned.

I'm very disappointed in the Knowledge Repository of 24HCF.

Maybe if I asked the question 15 years ago before 75% of this place was on Donepezil.🤦🏻‍♂️
