Actually the government has been subsidizing farmers and railroads since about the civil war. I have a 1/4 undivided interest in my great grandfathers homestead that he settled on in 1887 and obtained the patent to about 5 years later. I have a copy of the homestead patent signed by whoever was acting for President Benjamin Harrison.
If you will look at the farm subsidy data base you will find that the man you are criticizing is actually one of the lesser recipients in the USDA programs. It is a bad system that is badly abused but it is pushed by the ag businesses that sell the inputs.

The whole point is, you've got people on here that like to rag on folks getting/collecting Social Security/medicare, whatever, yet everybody thinks it's fine for a farmer to collect a million in subsidies. Seems like hypocritical bullshyt to me. I'm just glad I finally know a millionaire!
