Is it safe to drift night sights....specifically tritium?

I don't want to break them.

Or do you buy an adjusting tool?

You are better off getting a sight pusher, then beating on them.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.

I have installed, adjusted and moved many rear sights manually. Never damaged a vial or had a set quit before they faded from age.
I consider myself lucky to have never damaged a sight. I now use a sight tool, and that is what I recommend. For field expediency I am not afraid to do what needs to be done with as gentle a hand as possible.

Not all sights are equal. Mepros and Trijicons have been the toughest over the years.

Can you do this in the daylight or is this something you have to wait until dark to do?

I prefer a pusher. Also, check your POI in daylight where you're aligning the metal part of the sights. Then check it again in low light where you're aligning the dots.

It may not be the same.

I prefer a sight pusher. I've seen people damage them with a punch. However, you can do it with a brass or nylon punch if you're careful.

I worked as a an Armorer for a. Number of years. Drifting rear shifts with a punch would result in leaky tritium vials. Use a pusher.
