I guess we will be getting a new govt hunter in July.

They passed a tax so all the cattle producers will pay a 2 dollar a head tax to pay for it.

Govt matching funds after that.

So, in the mean time we pay for them to fly and shoot coyotes.

The pretty red and white Jet Ranger helicopter just flew my big coulee.

Pretty neat to see.

I guess the new govt guy will be full time in this county.

Maybe I can get a picture here when I head back.

Coyotes that big a problem for you folks?

When I first met the neighbor rancher I asked if his cattle were bothered much by them, and offered to shoot every one I see for him. He told me it's not a big bother for him.

Maybe it's all the does and fawns that hit his alfalfa pivot that keep the 'yotes happy? Couldn't get them all in the frame last night, must have been about 40 total.

I know the pilot. We talked quite a lot about the program the other day.

I never thought to ask him what the shooter uses. Probably a shotgun eh?

I might take some flying lessons from him this summer.

I will ask.

Is that tax $2 per head annually, or upon sale? How about the western part of the state, if ranchers are paying for predator control there should be expectation for control of bigger predators, too. Last time I hunted there, 2020, there were very few coyote tracks, but lots of wolf tracks.

I wonder what performance reviews are like for a .gov hunter? What's the success metric?

Theoretically - the more cows he keeps alive, the more 2 dollar tax collected right?

Jim, there may be good out of 2 bucks a head, kinda like a contract, all you have to do is make a phone call, my state trapper’s have every excuse in the world why I’m wasting my time. Getting a chopper up is rare.

Not too many yrs ago....Utah would do 'aerial gunning' for 'yotes..fixed wing & helio's

Then the Governor decided to impliment the $50/head for yotes

Stating....'mule deer are better for the state's economy' than coyotes

Although several helio crashes of Gov't trappers have marred the practice

Know the one trapper that crashed & got hurt real bad..but survived

I used to do that job.

What type govt hunter are you getting? County oriented, or USDA APHIS?

It makes a difference.

$2.00 per head - I hope you get over 0.20 per head in value returned.

Jim Conrad, It would be nice to hear from Scenar Shooter again, APDDSN0864 Ed to many letters is a Government Trapper currently working in West Texas, doing predator and pig control. Rio7
