I ordered a new Model 70 Winchester Extreme Weather in .30-06. It should be here today.

I can't believe you wasted your money on a worthless 30-06. Don't you know it's only useful for killing mice at close range. I should know, I own a couple of them.

I just can’t get into other cartridges. I own five and love them.

I love mine. I just bought another a few weeks ago. It just seems forgotten today.

I have a few other calibers that I use and love but its the .30-06 (one of several I own) I reach for 9 times out of ten when I go hunting. It’s hard to look elsewhere when you have everything you need in a cartridge!

Excellent choice. I’ve been thinking about getting a .30-06 EW myself. I already have 4 other 30-06 rifles in the safes, along with others. Otherwise I’d probably already have one. Looking forward to your review.

Great rifle, versatile cartridge.

Mine is chambered in .270 Winchester, and shoots 150 gr. very well.

How do you manage keeping brass and ammo separate with so many rifles chambered for the same cartridge? My father and I each had '06s back in the '70s, him an '03A3, mine a pre-64 M70. The chambers were wildly different. Brass from my rifle would give case head separations in his and brass from his rifle wouldn't necessarily size down enough to fit in mine .. and if it did, we'd get case head separation if it wandered back to his rifle. His ammo wouldn't chamber in my rifle at all.

I’ve never had any problems. I had nine .30-06 rifles at one point.

Looks like mine. I plan on getting a Swaro 3.5-18x44 for it.

Mine's a VX-3i 2.5-8x36mm Leupold.

Spends a lot more time in the field at 2.5X, and think 6X was about the max.

YMMV

I really like my EW in 7wsm and will be adding one in 338 shortly.

Have wondered about getting one in 243 and having JES do a .358win

I love my EW rifle, hated the original stock. I had to replace it.

I picked up a clean used one in 30-06 recently. Stainless fluted 22" barrel made in Portugal. It has a synthetic stock with an aluminum bedding block. I haven't shot it yet but I really like the way in handles.

I'd like to lengthen the mag box in mine. It's got a spacer in the back that I'm thinking about just cutting out but it looks like I'll have to shorten the ejector blade and maybe the bolt stop too.

I thought about buying a 300 wby or 7 stw length mag box to try but it looks like the feed lips for this 30-06 are on the top of the mag box so a mag box for a magnum round is probably wider on the top so I'm guessing I'm better off chopping the spacer out of the one I have.

I also tried to adjust my trigger and it won't go lower than 3.5 pounds. It's their newer style box trigger and my other model 70s have the old open style. Does anyone sell a lighter spring kit for these moa triggers?

I'm going to put one of my bushnell lrhs scoped on it and get it to the range soon. Maybe it'll shoot ok with rounds loaded under 3.4" but if I can lose the spacer and gain some room I'll be mack happier with it. Hopefully I don't run into some unforseen reliability issues lengthing the mag box. I want this to be reliable because if it shoots it should be a great go anywhere and do anything rifle. It could end up being a favorite.

Living in Tennessee. I’ve been doing some hunting in Hawaii and the shots can be long.

I think 3.5 lbs will be fine for me. If not maybe an aftermarket. I wish they would have stuck with the original trigger design.

That original Model 70 trigger had a LOT going for it, like simplicity. Easy to deal with, particularly while hunting in rough conditions where the action & trigger might get dirty and or wet.
