I have most, if not all of, the Capstick series and currently reading “ Kill or Be Killed” by Major W. Robert Foran. Interesting in itself as he makes no claims regarding being a historic white hunter. He is remarkably self NOT aggrandizing as many are and have spoken. Refreshing to read about someone who mainly is a real person. MTG

Yes. I got on board with Capstick early on. The series was great reading at an affordable price. I pull one out every couple of years and read it again. They never get old to me.

In my youth I was very fortunate/unfortunate that a neighbor had the collection of Capstick books- I loved reading them as a young impressionable kid, and the sad part is it has fueled my Africa obsession ever since!

Very good writer (which for some reason people want to hold against him).

I read Death in the Long Grass by Capstick several years ago. I was left with the impression that some of it was fiction. I couldn't be sure whether some events actually happened or not. I'm not interested in reading fiction. I don't want to sell the book in case someone else is misled, so eventually I will destroy the book.

you need to watch some of his films maybe you would understand Capstick much better. > Capstick`s books are the real deal ,he lived one heck of a life .

Yes he lived a good life but it appears he also "greatly exaggerated" his recollection of events.

Some have questioned whether all stories were his to tell, or heard initially by him at a supposed PH watering hole and then claimed as his.

I have no idea and may never know. I try to take the stories with a grain of sale and enjoy his easy writing style regardless of what others say.

If you don’t like my reading his work, point me in a different direction and I’ll buy that as well.

In summary, I highly recommend with a healthy dose of suspicion, which is basically what we should often do with many things.

Capstick gets special treatment on this business of perhaps fleshing out or borrowing stories because we know for an absolute fact that all other writers (many of whom are held as gods) only relate the pure, unvarnished truth in all cases.
