I picked up a clean used one in 30-06 recently. Stainless fluted 22" barrel made in Portugal. It has a synthetic stock with an aluminum bedding block. I haven't shot it yet but I really like the way in handles.
I'd like to lengthen the mag box in mine. It's got a spacer in the back that I'm thinking about just cutting out but it looks like I'll have to shorten the ejector blade and maybe the bolt stop too.
I thought about buying a 300 wby or 7 stw length mag box to try but it looks like the feed lips for this 30-06 are on the top of the mag box so a mag box for a magnum round is probably wider on the top so I'm guessing I'm better off chopping the spacer out of the one I have.
I also tried to adjust my trigger and it won't go lower than 3.5 pounds. It's their newer style box trigger and my other model 70s have the old open style. Does anyone sell a lighter spring kit for these moa triggers?
I'm going to put one of my bushnell lrhs scoped on it and get it to the range soon. Maybe it'll shoot ok with rounds loaded under 3.4" but if I can lose the spacer and gain some room I'll be mack happier with it. Hopefully I don't run into some unforseen reliability issues lengthing the mag box. I want this to be reliable because if it shoots it should be a great go anywhere and do anything rifle. It could end up being a favorite.

Damn Swampy, where have you been? Yeah, we haven’t seen this ol boy in a long time. Now that he has a Winchester, his 700s will likely become safe queens.

I just found another stainless classic in 30-06. This one is a 90's USA built one with the hard plastic stock. It is in good shape but the barrel looks like it was recrowned and I believe it's 22" now but I believe it was originally 24".
No collector value but it's a nice stainless m70 and I bought it for $700. I'll see how this one shoots too. If it doesn't shoot great it'll be a good candidate for a rebore to 9,3x62. Should make a good hunting rifle.
I also bought a new Remington model 7. It's the aac 300 bo with the threaded barrel. Wasn't really looking for one but it's a cool little rifle the kids can use. They like my kimber Adirondack in 300 bo so they'll like this model 7. I'm tempted to sell my Adirondack because I've seen them brig good money.

I have an extreme weather 30-06, I’ve taken moose, caribou, elk and black bear with it. I’m probably forgetting some of the stuff I’ve done with it. Great gun. Mine is very accurate with most 165 and 180g bullets.

Looks like mine. I plan on getting a Swaro 3.5-18x44 for it. Mine's a VX-3i 2.5-8x36mm Leupold. Spends a lot more time in the field at 2.5X, and think 6X was about the max. YMMV GR Your choice of power in scopes makes a lot more sense.

I had an FN South Carolina made EW in 308 win for several years. Excellent rifle in every way. I suspect the new ones are equally excellent.

The classic stainless (sporter) was 24” and the mags were 26”. FW and AT mags were also 24”.

I have one of the SS Classics in 30-06 that I picked up used at a gunshow. It is the Sporter and is currently in a McMillan Edge stock. As near as I can determine it was made in 1999 with a 22" barrel. When I heard that Winchester was going under in 2006 they had another in the rack at Walmart with a 24" barrel. I REALLY like the older one and jumped on the one at Walmart. It was a POS that I kept for a while and managed to sell for what I had in it. The early ones made in the 1990's and very early 2000's were good rifles. The closer you get to the end of production the worse they are.
