Because the mountains sometimes have a blueish tint or haze to them.

I've seen on a hazy day they take on a bluish hue in the distance.

The shadow effects are blueish on any given day.

Love the mountains and open land here in Oregon.. ( not the politics tho ! ) but there are plenty of times I miss home, Southwestern VA and SE West Virginia... but how much the population has increased in my life time, I don't care for that very much at all.

And if you want to go strictly scientific, it's isoprene molecules emitted from certain oak and poplar species that filter light to our eyes as blue in color.

Beautiful!!
Can't imagine living anywhere else!

I'll be crossing the FBR maybe 50-60 miles north of there in a couple of hours.

Beautiful view.

You have more green showing that we do. We're still have some snow up in the woods and we're supposed to get some more tonight.

I do love the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC where we live.
