Anybody else notice contact with the bolt of a CZ550 on the trigger finger?? Have a 9.3 - not a lot of recoil, but the bolt curves back into just about perfect contact to thump my trigger finger knuckle.

I can change my grip lower and stretch my finger, but it isn't natural.

I have heard of people getting bolts re-shaped, straightened or bent as the case may be. Or a different stock, with either open or closed grip geometry, perhaps would move your knuckle out of the way of the bolt. I wouldn't ignore it because your sub-conscious mind won't and you might start to flinch. By the way what model of CZ is it and do you have small, avg. or really big hands? Maybe this question would get more responses on the gunsmithing page.

My CZ 550 in 375 H&H should be here (the second time) by the end of the month. I plan to send it to Ed Plummer for his CZ Upgrade #1 package:

This may fix your issue with the bolt, I suggest you speak to him.

Chuck

Mine is the 9.3 x 62 full-stock. My hands are med to small. With a conventional grip, there is only about 1/4" space. It looks like straightening the bolt would move it to 3/4" or more clearance so that is what I'll do. Other than the bolt, I could not be more pleased. Thanks one and all for reading and considering.

Yesterday was the first time I shot mine with the bolt reshaped. The bite is gone!

Any chance of a photo? I'm a bolt bite tragic ... or a big bore addict ... either way nearly all my bigbores are in need of a bolt straightening to get my trigger knuckle out the way.
Cheers...

I have taken my Christmas 550FS 9.3X62 to the range twice: once with factory loads, once with handloads. There was no bite from the bolt, from the bench or offhand and I used a fairly soft hold on the bench. I have fairly small hands so that may be why I haven't had a problem.

Off the subject a little, but I have instantly bonded with this rifle. Four different handloads averaged .82" groups, and I shoot it well offhand. I've liked CZ's before, but I'm in love with this one.

I will try to get photos posted soon. I have been doing some work, had to remove a trailer house that was preventing the expansion of my range beyond 500 yards. (Well that isn't the most pertainent reason, but its my favorite one.)

Looking forward to the pics. I'm impressed you need 500 yards for your 9.3... I've been playing with grips and get along better with fewer bites.

Who did your bolt straightening work. Estimate I got was $60.

Let me also call attention to 9.3 users to a thread I started in the bigbore reloading to help develop some velocity info and powder options on the 20-inch 9.3x62.

I had the bolt of my CZ550 416Rigby bent outwards a bit, but mostly so that it was further from the stock and easier to get a grip on in a quick reload situation. An inexpensive modification that is well worth the trouble.

Hi all, my CZ 550 Safari Custom in 375 H&H just arrived. It is absolutely gorgeous. I did have to send it back once, but what a difference! The action is perfect, snug tight locking, no wooble when you work the bolt, but smooth and slick. The stock is beautiful. Hi Vis front sight bead, dual crossbolts, glass bedded, barrel band, Pachmayer Decelerator Pad, Mercury recoil reducer and CZ action job. Not cheap at $2100, but I think well worth it. I get to shoot it tomorrow. I'll try and take some pictures too. I will still probably send it to Ed Plummer at AHR for his CZ 550 Upgrade #1 package ...

But I'm going to enjoy it for a while first
