I purchased 150pcs of Starline 6 ARC brass a couple of weeks ago, three bags of 50 pcs. I have read that Starline brass quality/consistency in recent years has been very good, but I haven’t seen any data to quantify that. Out of curiosity I decided to weigh every piece to see how consistent it is. Zero prep don to brass, this is straight out of the bag. Below is a picture of the distribution. I weighed them on my Ohaus 505 scale.
Average = 107.9 grains
Min = 107.4
Max = 108.5
Spread = 1.1 (1.02%)
STD Dev = .251 (0.23%)

I reload/shoot all the time but never weighed brass.
Whats a good STD dev?

I’m not certain to be honest. I can tell you this is significantly lower/better than any other brass I’ve weighed with the exception of Lapua and Alpha Munitions. I was impressed! When weighing Hornady, Remington, Winchester, Federal, Nosler etc… I have found spreads greater than 3 grains in weighing 10 pieces or fewer.

I just used a battery operated Hornady scale that may be considerably less reliable than your Ohaus 505 scale. Yet my results were very similar to yours.

Ha. Well, if I could have found my battery powered Hornady scale, I was gonna use it. It was MIA so I went with my primary powder scale.
