I work with guy that has one of the original TRP's. New in the case and unfired. he will not sell it. I have handled it and it is indeed a very nice 1911. Wasn't FBI HRT using them when they first came out? Or was it another custom 1911? The FBI special ordered some fully custom 1911s from Springfield Armory. I believe the TRP was out before then, though. I ordered my TRP before I read a single article on the FBI ordering up custom 1911s from Springfield Armory, and I devoured gun literature and gun news back then. I believe I started the ball rolling by phone with the Springfield Armory Custom Shop on my TRP in late 1997. The person I spoke to made no mention of an FBI contract to make custom 1911s along the same or similar lines, which you'd think would be natural for them to make mention of. People you talk to on the phone don’t always know everything, or we don’t ask the right questions and they’re tight with the information. I was going to argue that the TRP was patterned after the FBI HRT pistol, but on second thought, it may have been patterned on the 1911 the LAPD SWAT ordered back then. Part of the problem of getting older, is we can’t seem to remember everything from 30 years ago. I used to keep every issue of Shooting Times, Hunting, Outdoor Life, but I never reread them, so I recycled them and freed up some space. So I can’t reference Shooting Times.

Now they use MOS version of this or G17 MOS: Marine Recon units also dumped 1911 rail gun in favor of Glock. https://www.sandboxx.us/news/force-recon-gets-a-new-rifle-and-handgun/According to Sandboxx, Marine Force Recon now use the SIG M17/M18.

Had the stainless version for a few years. Smooth shooter. Sold that got the Loaded Marine. Sold that got ahold of a Professional. Sold it got a couple glocks and lots o'ammo.

I don't have a TRP but do have an RO. Not as fancy but shoots great. Springfield makes a great 1911. Maybe someday I'll find a TRP to add to the stable. Beautiful pistol!!

The HRT pistol was the result of a competition between manufacturers (four?) that Springfield was awarded. The civilian version of the pistol is the Professional model. Dave Williams ran the custom shop at the time. He stated the TRP was directly inspired by the Professional model but intended to be more affordable.

They still have the frame and slide made in Brazil ? I never could warm up to that.

Maybe the TRP came out simultaneous with the FBI contract. When I ordered my TRP I had heard nothing about an FBI contract, but about a year after I had it, the FBI Springfield was on the cover of every gun magazine.

HRT and SWAT work in teams on shifts, private citizen can not count on such support, therefore, something utterly reliable is needed. Glock Perfection!👍👍🤩

Too weak in relation to size and weight. I would rather lug around S&W 29 or S&W 629 with 3" or 4" barrel. If it is big and heavy it must be powerful. .45 acp is weak. Gotcha.

When compared to .44 Magnum which is available in reasonable sized N-framed revolver. The .45ACP is kool in old military pistol like 1911s from Rand Corp, Ithaca, Colt .... but makes no sense as modern CCW. Modern rendition is .40 S&W which can be contained in same size handgun as ubiquitous 9mm Luger. Glock has their own version of .45 cartridge, but ammo is expensive and difficult to find.
